Football's obsession with grief

The minutes applause for the King of Thailand's death summed it up for me. For the Thai people I am sure and pretty certain it was a big deal but it shouldn't be forced upon others. *To make things that extra awkward, the away team (forget the fixture) also had to participate! I fully expect a minutes applause for rumoured resurrection of Jesus during the Easter fixtures or perhaps a minutes applause for his birth during the Boxing Day fixtures.

It's a shame that people can't keep quiet for the remembrance day minute / two minute silence and we have since had to resort to an applause. Events and occasions like that SHOULD be remembered in my eyes. They have had a bearing upon my life and they way we live now.

It was still one of the weirdest things I have ever seen, it really was the ourselves crawling through the gutter for a bit of success applauding that lot. Weirdly I was sat next to a guy who was applauding who hates our own royal family yet he's going mental for one that openly would throw him in prison for holding the same beliefs out there.

I'd love it if some prank show could manage to see how far we could take, maybe stand outside the Etihad saying the Sheiks want a petition signing for clemency for Islamic State fighters, I bet some would still sign it.

Are we still showing the advertising board for the deceased King? It was ridiculous enough in the first place. Football fans would happily applaud Chairman Mao if it meant it did some good to the club though; I noticed Collymore ask Forest fans if they'd accept a Human Rights abuser as chairman if it guranteed success, to which the overwhelming majority said yes.

I would not be surprised one bit. It's as though we have to buy into our owners beliefs just because they have helped us achieve success. Writing this makes me sound ungrateful for everything they have given us but technically it's their job as the owners to help bring the success. I honestly didn't clap and I wouldn't clap for anything I do not believe in.

Fvcking hell, looks like he's been caught with his hands in the sweetie draw lol

Looks like the kid who's trying not to chuckle in the school assembly during the minute's silence.

I think we have to accept that this is something that's never going away. There will always be a person or group latching onto a tragedy. I suspect we'll have this situation cropping up at least five times a season from now on. Slowly and slowly this gesture is losing its meaning the more and more it's done.
