Summer clear out (on the event we stay up)

Recommended Posts

Based on what we have seen this season, who do we need to clear out of the club if we pull off another great escape? For me:

Vardy (big head and does not seem to care anymore)

Mahrez (cash in whilst we can)

Shinji (too much time on his arse, love him but not good enoug)

King (not realistically going to offer anything, Keep as a sub if we change our style of play to incorporate an attacking mid)

Morgan (past it - possibly keep after a rest, he's played 85 games consecutively and 99/100 of our prem games, could do him good and be a good sub)

Huth (past it)

Wasilewski (too old)

Ulloa (does not want to be here)

Zieler (doesnt get a game)

It will probably rock the boat with a mass exodus of players, but they simply are not good enough to be a mid table prem team anymore, maybe last season after we pulled off the impossible but we know it was a one off and they have been found out, they are all pretty one dimensional players.

I would build the squad around:

.                                  Schmeichel

RB                   CB                             CB               Fuchs

                      Ndidi                       Drinkwater

RW                                   CAM                              Gray

                                       Slimani

Subs - Simpson, King, Musa, Benalouane, Hamer (or a new sub keeper) Amartey (could be converted back to CB?)

Potential players I'd like to see here:

CB -

Evans - Experienced in prem

Gaspar - Can play RB consistently also

Mbemba (could be expensive, one for the future though)

Chiriches - Low wages at Napoli

Zapata - Low wages at Milan

RB -

Abate - Low wages at Milan

Wing-

Matt phillips - Powerful fast and the type of player we need for tracking back.

Alex oxlade-chamberlain - Same as above

Cam -

Gylfi Sig - No explanation needed

Alessio Cerci - Technical, agile, great on the ball with an eye for goal (can play wing)

St -

Shane Long - Goal machine if played and supplied, could play in a 2 with slimani.

Who do you think we need to get rid of in summer regardless?

This isn't football manager mate. Things aren't just black & white.

Of course not.

This is a thread about getting rid of the dead wood, building on a solid foundation, and the sorts of players we would like to see come in.

But the season is no where near finished, so abit difficult to make such decisions. Vardy could go on and score another 10 goals?

I could get a call up for Leicester and score 45 goals......

I think you're in cloud cuckoo land with your wish list of incoming players. Can't imagine us spending the best part of  £100m on new recruits in the summer even if they were all available and did all want to come here.

Whatever happens this season, next season's team will look a lot different.

The back four need replacing for starters, midfield is probably OK in the main but Mahrez and Vardy need to go and reluctantly Ulloa and Shinji too.  The squad needs MASSIVE investment, especially if we stay in the prem.

Club needs a whole new mentality.

And at the minute it looks as if we need new management to install fresh hunger into ANY player who may possibly be here.

But I think you're being unrealistic. Players like Sigurdsson? No chance, not even if we stay up. We had the chance to push on in the summer and missed that chance.

Chilwell would be my preferred left full back too.

Drop to the championship and it'll be easier to list who we will keep. It's frightening what's happening to our club at the moment, Vardy and Mahrez taking a million pounds a month out of the club already and for what..

100m? who said anything about spending 100m?

Why on earth put this thread up now, when we don't even know where we'll be playing? Are you bored?

If we go down, we'll lose half the squad anyway.

No one will want our players

Last season we were a team full of average players in the form of their lives, working hard to win the PL.

Now we've reverted back to just being average players on ludicrous contracts. No one will take a (reportedly) 100k per week Vardy.

I'd get rid of the following in the summer, should we stay up:

Zieler, Fuchs, Benalouane, Huth, Simpson, Wasilewski, Mahrez, Albrighton, Vardy, Okazaki, Ulloa  and Musa.

Wes stays as a backup player we'll wheel him out for old times sake in the tinpot cup competitions.

Me.

Evans, Phillips, Sigurdsson and Long would cost about £70m. Would be well over £100m with the rest of your fantasy football team.

Last summer we fluffed our chance as champions and in the champions league to add outstanding  players.  Next summer don't expect established star players to sign with us.  We need to keep finding quality unknown players such as Kante, Vardy, Mahrez and Ndidi were when we signed them.

I did not say buy all of them.

Loan out: Amartey, Gray, Kapustka, Barnes.

Assess Tom Lawrence & Matty James in pre-season.

Sell: Wasilewski, Benalouane, Huth, Mendy, Musa, Ulloa, Okazaki.

Why loan out players that we will need and will be useful next year, not having a go just curious? Amartey and Gray have been the better players when they have player (Amartey took time but looked good before afcon). I also think Barnes could play from the bench next season. Scored twice already in league 1 and had been motm in at least one performance. Would prefer to give him game time here and see what he can do, loaning out in January if he needs it. Call me crazy but I would have preferred keeping him this season to come in for an underperforming Drinkwater but that won't be a popular opinion I know.

Whilst I agree that a lot of our players are bang average, I don't doubt that they still hold appeal to other clubs. Mahrez, above maintains a lot of value due to his performances in the champions league and managers at the higher end know that if they give him creative freedom and motivation he is fantastic. You look at all the absolute garbage that still ends up back in the premiership despite poor performances (Lescott, Jordan Mutch, Arouna Kone, Borini, Balotelli, Cabella etc) and none of our players are in that category. They're on high contracts, but have proved that they have what it takes to succeed. Even players like Shinji, who we all know ends up on his arse far too often, has such a strong reputation as an industrious forward - which someone will have a use for.

Vardy is the only exception - he'll finish his career with us.

I guess new team tactics would need to be nutted out before the bulk of recruitment begins. Pretty much every team now have us in their back pockets so it’d be insane to continue with this strategy as our main threat. Counter attack football… eh I mean hoof-ball should be our plan B next year.  I just hope we're not forced into becoming a dull defence minded side due to the shock of this season although in saying that anything would be better than this shower of shlt.

It should be imperative to offload those players who have totally lost the ability to pass the ball like any normal professional footballer. I’m surprised Drinkwater is not on your list of ’clear out’ players because he defiantly falls into this category. His passing has become ridiculously sloppy and so negative. His long balls hardly ever reach their target. He’s dire at shooting, his defensive capabilities are ok I suppose but he fails at his role as playmaker. He doesn’t have the skill or courage to run at defenders. All in all in my opinion he's a very one dimensional bang average player. Last year ok he was slightly better than average, not amazing just tidy (I don’t see him as a superstar like most people do on here) but honestly I reckon he's past his best before date, he’s not going to be instrumental for us in the future so I think cut him loose. By the way I don’t care if that niggles some people, he’s not an irreplaceable player by any stretch of the imagination.

I don’t agree Vardy should be sold (unless we have to with the drop) he’s a natural born striker who works tirelessly when things are going ok. I think he’s lost his edge simply because he doesn’t see enough of the ball, his confidence is shot like everyone else but at least they get to touch the ball, he has to chase horribly inaccurate long balls. He'll come good... I hope.

If it was up to me I’d get rid of this lot first up (providing we stay up): DD, Was, Ulloa, Wes, Huth and maybe Albrighton as his long balls have been very hit and miss this year plus he gives the ball away too easily.

Keep Simpson, Fuchs and King as reliable backup players. Everyone else could be ok once adjusted to a new style of play.
