I've been so negative on mahrez recently I feel like adding I LOVE to see him play for us.

He really ought to remember that, though he may be frustrated, there are fans that adore him and that his legacy and memory are important to those who turn up to see him play. Moan in private, praise in public.

I'm under no illusions that we're a footballing power house and the best he can do ; I don't want this confirmed to me in the national rags.

Let me love you, Riyad, and let me believe the lie you love me back!

Errr didn’t Vardy have a £20m one that arsenal activated?

If it was only as simple as that. Agents are so powerful now a days & have so much influence. Its all just a big game of poker!

Release clauses have many conditions attached that usually weigh heavily in a players favour. Agents use them to back clubs into corners with the end goal being that their player gets an improved contract or a big move. Clubs are pretty much powerless and have to play the game.

Vardy’s agent played a blinder on this occasion!

After he broke the record talks began on a new contract but the club refused to pay the huge wages that were being asked so compromised on improved terms but with the release clause.

£20m is obviously a low amount but If we hadn’t agreed to it we could of lost Vards for a lot less at the end of the season so the club were backed into a corner!

The agent clearly knew a club would activate the clause at the end of the season so we would be forced to match the offer on the table or lose the player. Arsenal obviously offered big wages that forced us to match it!

Vards was never going to leave for Arsenal or any other club but by using the media & poker tactics the agent did his job & got him a massive new contract!!

Hopefully this gives a little insight and shows you that the club & people responsible for these negotiations aren’t as stupid & naive as you think but are just playing the game of the transfer market!!

I don't buy for one moment that we couldn't sign an unknown from league one who had no other concrete interest and we were already doubling or trippling his wages, without a bloody release clause. They might have asked for one, but don't for one second think that if we'd said no that they wouldn't have come.

Albert says he had already rejected us... if that’s true why would he come on anything other than his  own terms?

So if u were in charge of transfers and a complete unknown player from the 2nd tier of French football who had already rejected you 2 or 3 times turned around and said he would sign but only on X amount of wages and a £35m release clause you wouldn’t of agreed the deal?!?!

It wasn't a £35m release clause for starters.

We bid for him when we didn't have a manager, Kante himself said he couldn't accept the offer without knowing who the manager would be.

I also don't believe a player that apparently doesn't want to come, suddenly does because of a release clause.

We wouldn't have lost him for a lot less at the end of the season, that's just nonsense.

Vardy had 3 years left on his existing contract. We had all the power in that negotiation.

Kante one is absolutely fair enough, I understand that. The Vardy one was clearly a huge balls up by the club.

Sorry to piss on your bonfire but before he signed the new deal he had a clause in his contract that would of allowed him to leave for a lot less than £20m we agreed in the new one.

Sorry Babs you’re right there. The clause was £28m that allowed him to speak to Champions league clubs only, but if a higher offer came in from elsewhere it had to be matched. A Chinese club managed by one of our former managers bid £35m which Chelsea matched

This topic has covered hundreds of pages of content here and this is the first time this has ever been mentioned. You'll forgive my scepticism.

This clause - a specific one which activated only in the summer was it? Because Vardy had just scored in 11 straight games and didn't sign the new deal until February. If this clause actually existed we would have had bids "significantly under" £20 million in January.

This is utter rubbish. Whatever Mr Rudkin has told you there was no release clause in his previous contract.

Lol! ‘Mr Rudkin’ didn’t tell me anything but even if he did it sounds like you know more about the contract than the director of football & Vards himself!

Ha.

Did you ask him why he didn't go to Villa or Southampton when they bid 15m for him then!?

The Kante release clause was a complete bogus that we got stung on.

He didn’t even want to sign for us and had rejected the move cus he was holding out for a move to Marseille. It was only down to the fact we were so persistent, Marseille weren’t 100% sold on him & we offered him double the wages that he signed. The release clause was a sweetener!

It was the equivalent of signing a complete unknown player from league 1 and adding a £30m release clause to get the deal over the line!

He’s a complete one off so can point fingers all day long at the usual scapegoats but just imagine if we hadn’t agreed it?!?! U win some u lose some in football and looking at the bigger picture I think we won big time!

There was also the unkown small matter of Kante having more than one person representing him at the time

Rudkin played a blinder to get him to join us at all but that is not the right answer for most on here

Guess Rudkin also messed up by employing Puel

Lol! Not trying to compete with u mate! Your the first person I’ve seen mention those bids which were pretty much unknown so you clearly know ur stuff!!

Southampton only offered £8m for him which the club rejected flat out. They refused to go higher so went for Shane Long instead.

He didn’t do too bad signing Cambiasso ahead of the 15 clubs that were in for him, pushing the owners to go for Ranieri, signing Wilf & Iborra for pennies, persuading 2 of England’s brightest talents Chilwell & Gray to sign long term deals or somehow getting £12m for Jeff Schlupp either!!

Not sure how anyone can honestly say we should have done something different than what we did Summer/Pre Summer 2015. If we hadn't have done exactly what we done its unlikely who we signed and what happened would have happened

Yeah that’s it, I thought he was still here for the cambiasso deal.

We sacked Robinson during that awful run after the 5-3 against United, after we signed Esteban so presumably he sorted that deal for us.
