Apologies if this should be in the Betting thread, but friends of mine who were at the Palace - Man City match are confidently alleging a fix, due to a Far Eastern betting syndicate. Does any of you hear these things, what are your opinions?

This sort of thing tends to feed into a creeping feeling I have, that what we are witnessing is, increasingly, a charade. I really hope I'm wrong.

What exactly is the suspected fix, the scoreline, 90th min missed penalty or something else?

I'll try to find out - as you might imagine, noisy people were slightly short on detail in a public forum.

I’ve been approached before to buy the result of a match before it’s been played. It could have been a scam though, which is what I assumed because I could hardly go to the old bill if bullshit could i?

I don't see how a Premier league game could be fixed, everyone earns so much money and games are under such scrutiny. Some greasy guy coming and offering you £100k to do something isn't really worth it.

I could understand at a lower league game that the bookies have opened markets on, but Crystal Palace v Man City, almost certainly not. Far East money men fixing a game to make money via gambling? It’d more to fix the game than they’d make on it.

Same here i have been offered a match result for £180 quid. I dont trust it for one second though. He has sent videos showing betting slips before the games start though and the correct scores have come in..... From games all around the world including a couple in the championship, Burton's 3-0 was one of them the other day and strangely enough like the Palace game there was a penalty missed in that to.

Anyone who bets regularly could easily amass a collection of videos of correct bets, just video every bet you place and then only distribute the winners. You will soon have enough winners to imply you have successfully predicted the outcome or got insider knowledge.

The Derren Brown betting "trick" is a perfect example of this.

It's almost definitely bullshit especially for £180, why would anyone need £180 if they have fixed a game, something that would require a lot of influence and net you thousands, if not millions if you place a big enough bet. Why would you also want to draw attention to the bet by getting more people to bet on it? And risk getting caught by offering it to people.

They get what the deserve, anyone falling for it has to be morally bankrupt to begin with.

The only thing I know is I had ten on Palace to win when they were at 9-1.

My excitement at them getting a penno was soon diminished when I saw the dog shit excuse for a penno that came thereafter.

The only people on the field who can fix a game of football are the Goalkeepers and the ref surely? And even the ref can’t manipulate a score line.

Horseshit.

I’d say the refs could influence the scoreline as much as a goalkeeper. The keeper can only manipulate a score for one team and in one direction.

The ref can give penalties, red cards and even soft free kicks to stop one team getting into goalscoring positions.

Still, no doubt it doesn’t happen at Premier League or Football League level.
