They count season ticket holders and it was them missing?

I think we are guilty of it too.

Most clubs do now. For accounting/tax purposes I believe.

Means they can offset any lump sums received for season tickets and allocate the money monthly. In relation to vat quarters etc. Sure someone with a better accounting understanding can explain. But I think its very common practice now.

Arsenal count tickets sold as attendance not how many people actually turn up

Don't think it should be allowed tbh. Statistics, including attendance figures, should mean something.

If they insist they can count the ticket's sold as a seperate statistic but they shouldn't be permitted to flat out lie and say there are 20,000 or even 1,000 more people attending than there actually are.

Saddens me most because that figure will go down as an official statistic. In years to come some saddo like me will look on Wiki or in a book and, if they didn't know any better, genuinely think it was basically a full house. Misrepresenting history for me, and it's well off.

The other week Coventry did the same with tickets given away.

Lies damn lies and statistics.

Ticket sales is probably just the easiest way of calculating the 'attendance.' You'd think with modern technology, clubs should track whether a seat is unoccupied at half time, if it is, forfeit that seat then let anybody who wants to come in at half time do so at a reduced price. More money made, more people in the ground, no disruption to fans with people coming in during the game.

More and more empty seats at the stadiums, the trend is clear.

The pricing policy for Premier League matches especially is ridiculous.

Soon, a majority of games will be played in front of ghost audiences.
