Saino's have some good Anschluss gear knocking about too. Stiegl, Augustiner and, most miraculously, an Erdinger that isn't a fvcking wheat beer.

Yeah it’s good to see more and more of it. Morrisons has had a fine selection for a while now.

Estrella Galicia is a sensational beer. Up there with the Germans.

Hopefully doesn't get too popular they'll start brewing it in Luton

Tbf the Erdinger Alkoholfrei is very good.

Isn't Modelo just the latest crap, bland macro lager being pushed by the big brewers?

It is definitely getting a big push now. I had a few in the Swan over the weekend and it’s decent enough beer on a sunny day.

Had a few Modelos over in the US a few years ago and thought it was ok, but I have noticed it's getting a bit of a push over here now. Is it one of those that's made to look like a foreign import but it's actually just brewed over here now?

no, it is still brewed in Mexico at the minute

Just had a look and the draft beer is brewed in Wales by ABInBev. It's one of those corn lagers , like Corona and the American Light beers, which makes it cheap to make and bland.

Looks like they'll be heavily playing on it being Mexican (that famous brewing country) after the Spanish ship has reached capacity!

Have quited liked Modelo for a while, after finding a bottle in company shop a few years ago. Lidl have had it occasionally for a few years as well. If you get the 355ml bottles they are Mexican brewed and quite nice, the big bottles they are selling are brewed in the UK and not very nice.

Yeah.

It might taste good compared to a Madri, Carling, Fosters, Carlsberg or Budweiser but generally speaking it’s a poor pint.

Even the imported Mexican lagers are generally sub par + the clear bottles make it taste worse.

Been spoiled by several visits to the famed Tree House Brewing in recent months. Since they don’t distribute to retail locations, every visit results in a purchase of a case or two. If anyone here is traveling to Boston for the World Cup, it’s a must visit.

Currently enjoying a Single Shot Vanilla Bean stout, with their English mild, plus several New Zealand double IPAs + hazy triple IPAs still to come.

Budvar from B&M, 3 bottles for £5.50 (or was it £5.75? I forget) at the minute which is a good deal.

Can't be doing with these atrocious UK-brewed imposters of continental beers, but surprisingly while the likes of Tesco are doing it with more and more brands, the discounters are generally the place to go for the imported real deal. If you're into Mythos that's the latest one to get ruined for our market, but both Home Bargains and B&M still get the real shit in from Greece.

I mean, they're atrocious at keeping the bottles properly, but i'd rather drink a Greek Mythos that has gone a bit skunky than a UK-brewed one that's .5% lower ABV and cut with glucose syrup to save money. If you're so inclined as to care, look for the ones that just say "Hellenic Beer" and avoid the ones that say "brewed with a Hellenic heart" (lol) like the plague.

Wish somewhere would import real Cruzcampo for what it's worth - between summer holidays and our adventures in the UCL I grew to love the real thing, hangover in Sevilla aside. As basic as it is by Spanish standards, our version is an absolute insult to both Spain itself and the intelligence of UK drinkers. They couldn't even get the Radler right and instead brought out some hideous Frankenstein's monster with oranges instead, which I gave a go and couldn't even finish a 4-pack of.

Loads of decent cask ales in various pubs in rural Norfolk.

Top boozing country

Wherry is a gorgeous pint in its local area, great bitter. Woodforde's are a very under-rated brewery in general, they have that Everard's vibe of being everywhere locally in Norfolk but barely seen outside of their own network of pubs.

Are those beers actually that good in their home country or do we have a nostalgia for them because we associate them with holiday? Mythos and Cruzcampo are both owned by Carlsberg and Heineken so are likely to be tampered with in their home markets anyway. I think you have to look for beers which aren’t owned by the big brewers and are still to some degree independent, or something German/Czech where it’s much harder to move away from traditional recipes

Nah, they're completely run of the mill. But enjoyable in the circumstances. The issue is the UK market's fetish for cutting both cost and ABV, and the fact that people willingly drink the glucose-syrup cut slop we produce domestically.

Don't even get me started on Madri literally being Carling's old recipe repackaged as a 'premium' beer from Spain. lol

Haha yeah and now they’re trying to push Carling Black Label. At least Madri highlighted to a wider audience that all these identical lagers are just a marketing con. I was one of the gullible idiots who thought they were drinking a stylish Spanish lager and I’ve become a complete snob ever since :D

Is the beer offering still dog shit?

Yeah aint amazing.

Does seem to taste a bit better than previous years though. I get it a bit cheaper as a member but £7.50 pints at full whack add up.
