Evans, Bertrand, Mooy, Mawson, Redmond, to name a few.....

Mooy who has just one season (this one) in the Prem in a side that has struggled the whole season. Maguire has an almost identical goals/assists ratio as a CB. I'm not trying to argue but is that really what qualifies as proven?

In my view this whole proven = success thing is a total myth. If a player has the right attributes they will do well. Look at Sanchez at Spurs. Came in from Ajax last summer and looks like he has been playing in the PL for years.

Bertrand maybe but all those players have performed average to bad along with their teams in my opinion.

Bertrand over 100 PL, including the season Southampton finish 8th, 19 England caps in that time.

Evans, 200 PL, will be want be 80% of PL clubs in the summer has a buy out clause of 3m

Mooy 4, 3 assists, best player in a struggling side.

Mawson, in the england squad for the friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy in March.

If Cairney was young, I would think yes, but he's 27 and has spent 99% of in the championship..................

Danny Simpson has had over 200 PL appearances including our title win and we are likely to finish 8th. So we should just keep playing him?

Fuchs, Okazaki, Kante - all key players in 15/16 with no prior PL experience. Not to mention the majority of the rest of the squad only having a seasons worth before hand with 80-90% of the time spent in the Championship. Simpson and Huth the only real exceptions. With Albrighton featuring sparingly for Villa over 4-5 seasons in the first team.

Would you turn down Sessegnon just because he has only played in the Championship? I think not.

27 is hardly ancient either - a lot of players hit their peak football years in the 26-30 period. Bertrand and Evans both older too.

A decent player is a decent player - whatever the league. If they fit the team then what does it matter?

A bit too Scottish for my liking. I've had a phobia of Scottish midfielders since the Levein era.

What wasn't to like about Stephen Hughes, Gareth Williams, Andy Welsh and Joe Hammill???

Danny Simpson is coming to the Twilight of his career, he's time in the first eleven is coming to an end, but still a decent enough squad player

You are being selective picking Fuch, Oki and Kante, what about the failures Musa, Slimini, Mendy and many more

As you point out the rest of the squad had a season worth to see if they could cut it.

You can't compare Sessegnon and  Tom Cairney, Sessegon is 17, and has burst onto the scene, taking the division by storm, and we have as much chance of signing him as Messi, Cairney is a championship journeymen.

Barring that game against Spurs I'd definitely have forgotten about Hughes but I had to google the rest. What a miserable stain Levein was on our club.

My main point is why do our new players need to be PL proven?  Does it really guarantee anything other than a hefty price tag?

I wasn't being selective - I was pointing out how much of an affect those 3 had on our title win with no previous PL experience. Then also look how they have dropped since - winning the league is surely a sign of being proven but the performances have disappeared since. It doesn't guarantee anything.

Think of all the Man City players that have come in with no PL experience this season. Ederson, B.Silva, Mendy, Laporte, Danilo. Quality is quality whatever the league.

I'm not saying every player from another league is going to be great. But the same could be said for signing players in the PL. Plenty of history for that - players changing clubs within the league and their form dropping significantly. Worked out well for Drinkwater. Our recruitment was just aimless in the last two summers - we didn't focus on the right players.

e.g. Slimani was a lone striker at Sporting not an Okazaki type to compliment Vardy and he was never going to replace Vardy himself. So we did we sign him? As I put earlier - "if a player has the right attributes". None of those players you mentioned did and that's why Claude has binned them.

I didn't say we are going to sign Sessegnon but you wouldn't turn him down would you? Because he has what you're looking for despite playing in another league. How about the other championship players linked with us in the last few weeks; Madison etc?

Your comparing pear with apples, most of Man City players you mentioned where playing in the Champions League so had proven themselves a the highest level.

I recuitment have been a shambles, because we have taken risks on player playing in second rate leagues or second rate teams.

We can't afford another poor summer window!
