Money changed hands when Russia won the bid to host this. It is going to be a disaster and I’d urge all England Fans to stay at home and safe. They’re animals out there, Neo Nazi scumbags without morals, mark my words there will be atleast one fatality.

Nobody is going to change their minds because of your post having spent thousands to go some time next week or whatever lol

There'll be smatterings of trouble but the police presence will be colossal

Not particularly but they're used to dealing with hooliganism, there's a reason the hools take to the woods

No matter how well-equipped and well-trained Russian security forces are prepared for the World Cup, unfortunately can still see some form of anti-English etc hooliganism occurring at some point.

Watched some programme some months ago on how Russian hooligans are preparing in forests for preparing for fights.

Am also fearing that some of the Russian police will be aggressive particularly towards English fans, for no real reason, and heavy-handle them.

Equipped and trained isn't the issue with Russian police, they're brutal and they understand how the hooligans work there. There's a reason they're out in the woods doing all this and it's very unlikely anything of that scale would happen outside of the woods, if it does look like it's gonna kick off then it's not even gonna be police it'll probably be the army that are used lol

Basically it's like visiting any other country, be respectful and don't do stupid things that are going to annoy the locals, like don't shout and rave about Hitler in Germany, don't show the bottom of your soles off to people in Asia ect. The Russians seem to have a particular distaste for effeminate men and things that undermine their national values, don't play with any of that in the open, stay respectful and you should be alright. The Russian sense of humour is often self deprecating and booze influenced, pretty easy to put a British spin on that and they'll warm to you.

It's the World Cup and it'll bring the best out of the people from all over the World that have come to celebrate & enjoy each other and most sane people from anywhere understand that so it should flourish.

For the record the police don't give a monkey's about your welfare if you aren't Russian and will happily take your passport off you only to request a sum of money to hand it back.

Corruption is rife, I wouldn't expect any protection as an England fan travelling there based on my experiences of the place.

Well that's bad news for the various LGBT fan groups/individuals I've seen gearing up with their rainbow flags ready to go on social media.

I'm hoping it's posturing to be honest, I know how bad it is for the LGBT folks in Russia but fvck they're already baying for English blood, it's one hell of a hill to die on.

They seem to think of gay stuff as something which needs to be contained and hidden away, any type of outward projection of homosexuality is seen as a threat to their religious beliefs, a negative influence on children who could see and a general weakness (especially in a man) they could pick on. Funnily enough though with most countries who have a reputation for hating gays(Turkey, some of the other Arab states), under the surface there is an incredible amount of man on man action going on, there just seems to be ways certain people go about their business in these places. I agree though LGBT fans are running a big risk going over to Russia, they should be free to do and behave however they like together but they have to be aware they're in a different country with different views so should probably act accordingly.

Long hair is seen as especially effeminate and anyone with a beard will likely be associated with the Orthodox church and jokingly at best asked if they're a priest, to which again could be seen as undermining cultural stuff.

It's not like every citizen of Russia is going to be belligerent though, don't look for trouble and be wary. Like walking though St.Matthews at gone 1am, I can understand why alot of people are scared but you have to weigh the risks up between going to a country and seeing a World Cup in the flesh. I mean Brazil has by far the worst murder statistics in the world, slums that make St. Matts look like heaven, in a sweltering jungle like environment with Zika and Malaria and whatever other mad stuff goes on there but look how that played out in 2014 & 2016, pretty well. As they say, Who Dares Wins

I think Serbia will get decent backing from Russian fans. Orthodox Brotherhood etc.

Slavic solidarity. Probably for the best the Russians have a few alternative teams to follow

You'd have to be a pretty brave Russian to mess up Vlad's big PR job.

I'm not saying there won't be any trouble, but the consequences for Russian citizens who are deemed to have disgraced the country would be severe.
