Team announced by fans in the stand

Can someone please put my mind at rest...

 

My friend and I were having a discussion about the championship seasons last week. I asked him if he remembered when fans would read the teamsheet from the stand (If my memory serves me correctly, the birch would make his way to a fan, usually a young kid, and duly get them to read out the team for that day. 

 

Turns out he can’t remember this ever happening and actually took the piss out of me for even thinking that it happened.

 

Can somebody please comfirm

or deny this ever happened please...

I remember the stadium announcer reading out the first names so that the crowd could read out the surnames - does that ring a bell for you?  That would have been during the championship seasons i think.

I know the birch used to go into the stands to give away a holiday to thailand every game one season in the champ, but that's about it

Yeah it happened. Years ago, circa relegation season or something like that. The dark years. 

 

Back when the Birch had the energy to walk round the crowd.

Yep, definitely happened. I remember mass confusion when Patrik Gerrbrand and Patrick Kisnorbo were on the same teamsheet.

Remember the days of Chelsea dagger 

Wearing that shitty top tiles kit with Martin Allen changing the flower beds to blue and they where optimistic times aswell !!! Getting home to hear the double signing of Campbell and clemence. Matty fryatt I believe also won a BBQ set that summer in training.

I also remember Martin Allen giving away a bag of Mars bars to the best performer in training, and jumping on Elvis Hammond and telling him he loves him and he's feeding his kids after he scored a goal in training. Strange man.

I remember Birch calling out "Number 9 (or whichever it was) Elvis......", to which we replied "Presley" instead of Hammond. Quite funny the first time, not so much the 20th time.

Yes I remember it happening for a while, but they soon gave up on it.

I’ll always stick up for Mad Dog.Great manager further down the leagues.Nearly pulled off a Leicester style escape at Barnet this year in his 5th spell there.I watch them now and again.Got Gillingham promotion and had a great few seasons at Brentford.I used to watch them aswell.We will never know how it would of worked out for him here cos he got sacked after 15 seconds.
