Jury still out on Silva.

I'm far from convinced that he's good enough for the PL.

He’s absolute class. But I don’t think he’s settled or ever will and one of them players that will never be suited to the prem.

Interesting point - and I agree he's class. What would tell us that he HAS settled? What would you be looking for Bert? I'm genuinely interested in this sort of thing.

Dunno about the settled thing - he's had such a weird year that I'm happy to basically write it off up to this point and see what happens.

But I know what you mean about suited to the league, he does a lot of good stuff but then sometimes it's like he thinks he has way more time and gets caught out.

Maybe that goes away, some of his first touch passes are class and he has the mobility Iborra doesn't

He's far more suited to the Italian or Spanish leagues.. The physicality of the PL is beyond him IMHO.

I’d say to kind of compare it with other players. For instance Kramaric was never settled here after moving from a different league. I’d even go as far back as some like Veron at United. World class player from his time in Italy yet came to England and pretty much flopped.  Compare them  to N’Didi for example who looked right at home after a couple of weeks. Silva is also a experienced international who has played in domestic European knockout games. You can’t fault his effort and he’s been used to playing in one league for a long period of his career. Another thing (and I know this might sound silly) is that he even waited to go back to Portugal to get his hair cut as he didn’t trust an English barber. I’m hoping something will turn and things will just fall into place especially with the arrival of Ricardo.

Good answer, thank you.

Even compare him to Iborra. Both pretty similar, spent a lot of time in one league and long periods at clubs that were always there or thereabouts come the end of the season. For me whenever Iborra has played he’s always looked composed and settled on the pitch.

I totally agree that Silva is class, I just hope Puel has a system in mind that will allow him the time and space to make us tick while others do the donkey work. Don't think we'll see it but I'd like to have seen us try a midfield 3 in pre season with Wilf and Hamza running around like mad things, closing down and harrying thus allowing Silva to probe in support of Madders. I think there's a brilliant midfielder there if we can unpick the lock.

Keep the young ones and farm out the flops on loan.

Yes, i wouldn't necessarily say flops but it just didn't work them here, But that happens in football. I think the main point is that we have way too many players not first team regulars. Yet we have a bunch of very good young players looking for their chance,

We'd be much better off with just 15 or 16 players and the young lads filling the bench when necessary.

What's the worst they can do, Freeze or make a mistake. All part of their development if they're going to make it to the Premiership.

Had we of spent the total cost of the 14 fringe players on quality additions, we'd most likely have kept Mahrez and Kante and be in the top 4.

Energy, Pace just need to sprinkle in a bit of creativity and finishing. Youngsters look better than  the more experienced players. Clear out time.

You don’t win anything with kids

What impressed me was how seamlessly the replacements fitted into the system - Puel has clearly instilled his playing philosophy throughout the entire squad.

That’s what the very best youth development team Barcelona do. They have a system and way of playing that is taught to their under 12’s team and all the way up. It’s why their production line is so good.

I agree it was impressive.

That’s the most bizarre analysis of a game I think I’ve ever seen..... Valencia we’re playing at snails pace and have Zaza upfront, I’m confident I could mark that bag of shit out of a game. Chilwell still looks uneasy at the back, a couple of time he needlessly lifted the ball out of play when a simple ball was on.... Hamza is a million miles away from Iborra, it may look impressive when he chases after people trying to hack them to pieces, but he isn’t anywhere near the quality we need at this time. Some of the kids look decent, George Thomas looks a bit all fart no no follow through so not that impressed, Gordon looks like there’s a bit of potential there, as does Ndwuku....

It seems we will over rely on Maddison, and we all know Kalechi will again be a bit part player as Vardy will be the main man... They looked ok against a pretty average Valencia side, no reason to get carried away just yet.....

Not sure why it's bizarre, it's how I saw the game. It seems I saw the positives where you see it all doom and gloom, like most on here. I'm sorry mate but if you think Iborra was a million miles better than Hamza then you're deluded. Hamza presses and unsettles and actually can pass to a blue shirt. With just two in the middle of midfield, Iborra is an absolute liability as is Silva. Luxury, idle, slow pissarse players not built for the Premier league. You need energy and talent or extreme talent to get away with no work rate. The game passes Iborra by, if he made most passes like a Carrick then OK, but he gives it away and people run by him all game.

I must be in the minority, I thought we looked all over the place at the back, however this could be ready sorted with the return of Evans and Maguire.

Playing with 2 defensive midfielders, who offer very little on the ball, we should be more solid, because if we aren't what else do they bring to the side.

However if it's not, expect us to ship goals aware from home!

Lack of creativity and pace in the three playing behind the striker, only creative spark in Maddison.

Unless Vardy is firing I can't see were the goals are coming from.

Unless we sign a couple of players in attacking position I can't see anything other than a long season

I tend to agree with you.  I don't think Wes and Benny will be the regular CB pairing - at least I hope not.  I thought they both had scary moments and, as I understood, the central midfielders were supposed to drop back to cover when the attacking full backs.  I don't think we are there with that yet.

I think we will look better with Vardy back, although I think Iheanacho has a lot to offer.  He had chances last night, finishing one.  We have options with the three behind, Maddison looking v good, although we can improve on at least one of the others.  Fingers crossed eh?

Scary stuff.

Whilst Palace look willing to pay 170 k per week for Maxi Meyer, some of us on here are happy to be replacing Maguire with unproven kids.

Too much, too soon.

We must be able to compete.

Completely agree. Puel doesn't appear to know what to do with this big squad. Made excuses for the two previous friendlies by saying that he'd select a experienced side for Valencia then ends up playing the kids second half. Loved the energy shown by the youth lads but doubtful they'll be starting at Manchester Utd. Now he says Vardy and Maguire won't feature either, Just surprised he didn't go with his strongest side and treat this game and the next as proper preparation for the real thing just round the corner.
