MC Prussian Posted 28 December 2019 Posted 28 December 2019 Already died on the 8th of December: René Auberjonois, best known for his portrayal of Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. R.I.P.
urban.spaceman Posted 30 December 2019 Posted 30 December 2019 Neil Innes, aged 75. I grew up on Python and Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, 30 years after they were around, and celebrated them proudly to the bemusement of my friends, who were into modern stuff. After a few years of this I converted many of my mates into becoming fans, seeing the Bonzos reunion shows and listing to them on repeat for hours. This one hurts. RIP.

Oh man, that's a hard one to take. R.I.P. I remember Innes from Rutland Weekend Television, a Monty Python spinoff created by him and Eric Idle. Funny, quirky, special. Guy was a very underrated songwriter, The Rutles a very good Beatles parody.

Must admit I was never into the Rutles that much, probably because it wasn’t as accessible as the Pythons and the Bonzos when I was growing up. Not sure. I did see the Bonzos at the O2 about 4 years ago and they played a few Rutles songs that I recognised. 1 hour ago, Free Falling Foxes said: Played one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. https://youtu.be/nkQ0tpQmobc I saw the Bonzos at the Astoria in around 2008; they’d had a 40th anniversary tour about 2 years before then made a new album Stephen Fry, Ade Edmonson and Phill Jupitus. For the Astoria show they only had Edmonson as Fry was out of the country and Jupitus was in a show on the West End. Edmonson, naturally, was dressed as a parrot for most of it. Halfway through the gig, after they’d already played I’m The Urban Spaceman (Innes introduced it as their medley of “hit”), they had a special guest. The show Jupitus was in had an interval, so they put him in a car to get straight down to the Astoria, literally wheeled him on stage like Hannibal Lector, to perform Canyons Of My Mind and Big Shot, before he had to go back. Honestly one of my favourite ever gigs. The Bonzos were absolutely legendary.

"The Urban Spaceman" would probably be their most recognised song. The nose flute... Just watched "Canyons of my Mind" on YouTube which had me in tears of laughter again after 40 years. If you have an interest in musical satire, check them out. Particularly "Death Cab For Cutie". Sends up blues and early rock and roll a-la Elvis brilliantly. Not to mention "Intro and Outro". Brilliant. RIP Innes. He was not just the 7th Python, he was an inspired satirist.

I’ve been telling my mates for 15 years that it I died before them, I want the following 3 songs played at my funeral: All classics, but the latter one especially has been on my mind lately - my sister’s about to have her first kid and I’ve been telling her I want a ukulele for my birthday so I can learn how to play Jollity Farm on it, because “I’m going to be that sort of uncle”. Very sad day, but at least I know what I’m putting on tomorrow’s NYE playlist.
urban.spaceman Posted 31 December 2019 Posted 31 December 2019 Bonus memory: When I saw them in 2015 Neil introduced ‘Equestrian Statue’ by saying “this song is so old that to be gay meant something completely different”.

For my funeral I have asked for another Bonzo classic: https://youtu.be/Kh8vNouUj2g
Jimothy Posted 31 December 2019 Author Posted 31 December 2019 According to Twitter June Whitfield died again on Sunday. Seeing as she died on the 29th of December 2018 too, you'd think she'd be more careful this time.

Still remember the roar from the audience when Vivian Stanshall staggered back onto stage after the gig, grabbed the mike and said 'I used to be a big shot....' Truly a unique band. I'll be raising a glass to Neil Innes tonight and after a couple will listen to the song below.
String fellow Posted 31 December 2019 Posted 31 December 2019 10,000 koalas in Australia - the world's leading coal exporter. When will the idiots that control the world take global warming seriously?

When will the idiots that control the world take global warming seriously? When the folks that elect them (in the case of countries that actually have elections) take it seriously too. Not yet, apparently - despite all the signs.

So a bunch of new guesses: 1. Heather Locklear 2. Jade Goody’s Mum 3. Linda Nolan 4. Leah Bracknell 5. Valerie Harper U40 - Aaron Carter Did I win again?
