Young Squad Birthing pains

All players will make mistakes, young and old.

With a new manager there's no longer Puel to blame. We've mentioned confidence, fitness and tactics amongst others . All are factors but we'd be wise to not forget that ultimately the players need to perform.

We hear enough about how talented a group of young players we have, I don't disagree, but it's not good enough for them to just believe it. Continued hard work is the key to keep developing. I think it will happen under BR, but it is essential if we are to improve.

Is there a danger they believe the hype and don't push on?

Quite possible, far too many "Oh we should have done better" videos on LCFC TV site. The repertoire of excuses is probably more extensive than our book of tactics and good things that have happened in the last 2.5 seasons unfortunately. Maybe there is a belief amongst the younger players that LCFC will turn them into another Kantė or Mahrez. I'd be quite happy with a 7 to 10 place for the next 3 seasons, and thought we were on the way to achieving that until a Crystal Palace gave us a right royal drubbing in a game which we murdered them statistically. Looking at a number of stats from games I get the impression that outside of the top 3 the lower possession teams win more games generally.

No way will he bench Kasper. He has become a part of the family as it were, and his relationship with our owners seems to go beyond that of your usual player status at a club, I think that's the main problem. Personally I'd like to see what Ward can do, and why not with nothing to play for this season? Get him in, if Top will allow it..

I don't believe that for a second. He'll get his chance to prove himself. If Rodgers believes he's not in form then he'll get to work it out in practice until he's good enough or.........

Pepe Reina suffered the same fate at Liverpool which resulted in Reina being benched then loaned to Napoli and transferred permanently. Reina didn't have too many nice things to say about Brendan. Tough tities.  Rodgers will not hesitate to make changes. Pepe got his chance but made too many mistakes.

That said I have not watched Kasper enough to really form an opinion of him. He seems to be the type of player that can play sweeper/keeper that Rodgers always wants. Just like Michel Vorm at Tottenham who played with Rodgers at Swansea.

I want Kasper to succeed here but football is a ruthless business.

Sometimes I think keepers get a bum rap in terms of blame. In that they reap the crap of multiple mistakes before the goal. Defense is really a team responsibility. ( 3 training sessions)

If you want to see the dream. Go to youtube and look up Mat Ryan "side volley highlights'. Absolute woody material! I know its Australia.

I thought Puel was the issue?

I wonder how many points we have tossed away this season from stupid errors.  Puel could not control that and would still be here if we were able to cut our foot-shooting tendency out.

Some of these young players are actually relatively experienced.  I'm getting to the point now where the argument that the team is full of youngsters so they have a free pass is beginning to wear thin.

Wolves have a younger squad, do they make costly mistakes week-in, week-out?

It really is bizarre. We miss a sitter or give away a stupid goal every single game.

Puel obviously had his faults but we needlessly threw away a ridiculous amount of points when he was here and that trend seems to have continued.

It's beyond coincidence now, something is wrong with the psychological side of our game but how do you coach that kind of stuff out of people?

Some good "potential" in the young players, however I think what they are crying out for is some excellent experience out there especially in the middle of the park to drive them forwards. I would sacrifice Ndidi if we could find an experienced leader. And before anyone says it, I am not referring to Silva or Iborra when he was here.

I do feel some of the “youngsters” coming through are a bit too ‘nice’ & lack

the nastiness in their game.

None of the seniors’ also appear to be grabbing them by the scruff of the neck similar to Gerry Taagart grabbing Robbie Savage back in the day for stray passes.

We do lack leadership in the middle & don’t appear to have a talker, or an orchestrator in the middle since Drinkwater left.

Hope Rodgers identifies this early & gets some new blood in to blend in with our youth - even having someone like Robert Huth gave us a bit of oompf.

I think the games changing - don’t get me started on the practised handshakes ?

Some folk on here will have you for that comment about the finger tickling handshakes.

Players no longer have to act or behave with any type of self awareness.

I vowed years ago never to put a Tottenham player into any search engine.....:nono:

Don't know if this is the thread to put it but I found Maddison's tweet concerning, in a string of these from our players this season where he's basically said we were the better team and didn't get what we deserved.

This is a proper losers mentality and this is something Rodgers has got to get knocked out of them as soon as possible. That's the kind of crap I expect from Tottenham and Arsenal and it's exactly what we showed them up for three years ago.

It sticks in my head Maguire tweeting about us not getting what we deserved after Bournemouth away this season. Given we lost 4-2 and our 2 goals were scored at the death I'd agree that we didn't get what we deserved - we made taking a hammering look more respectable than it truly was. If the attitude of the team was that we deserved something from that then ****ing hell.

This is where you need your senior players as well. Morgan, Schmeichel, Vardy - title winning players who all showed a winning mentality and have done on numerous occasions need to be telling the likes of Maddison, talented albeit a bit naive that this isn't the attitude that is going to see us be successful again. It just reeks of victim playing, excuse making losers.

Shlt results but when you have such a young, relatively inexperienced squad it takes 2/3 years to mature as a unit.

Hard in these times because of the short tolerance levels of fans.

A few of our first team players need to go. Ndidi, Mendy, Morgan,Nacho. They've had long enough.

says fans have short tolerance levels, names players that should go :nigel:
