LaCiudad Posted 11 January 2020 Posted 11 January 2020 Two things are holding us back imo. 1. The style we have adopted from goal kicks allowing teams to press us and close us down 2. The pace we play at jogging slowly to take throw ins, corners and set pieces Both should be fixable
TheUltimateWinner Posted 11 January 2020 Posted 11 January 2020 I can see why we do it, allow the opposition to press and draw players out. However 2-1 down with 5 minutes left to play we don’t have time to fanny around at the back. We should be pushing forward.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 11 January 2020 Posted 11 January 2020 We need a winger with a bit of pace, we only have Gray, the rest are so slow. It would be nice if for the last 10-15 minutes of a game we had a winger who would actually run at defenders and could give them something to think about.
sdb Posted 11 January 2020 Posted 11 January 2020 1. Sometimes yes but it can be a valuable approach too. 2. Agree. Madderz at corners when we need a goal is always bizarrely slow.

Only works if we can beat their press and we can't do that passing it backwards
Guest Kopfkino Posted 11 January 2020 Posted 11 January 2020 Honestly winds me up that we have no capacity for pragmatism, it's this way or this way, no other option. We kept ****ing around against Man City and we did it again today and nobody on or off the pitch sought the change it when it was clearly not working. They had it sussed today, a press in the 442 completely removes the ball into the DM and by the time the ball is worked out to the full backs their wide players are on you. We have absolutely no idea how to do anything different so we spent the whole game playing into their hands and making it impossible for ourselves. Tbh it's where a player like Grealish (probably more peak Wilshere tbh) comes in cos he takes it by the scruff of the neck and carries the ball, likely draws the foul. Ricardo aside, our guys almost always look for the pass in their own half.

st albans fox Posted 11 January 2020 Posted 11 January 2020 We’ve lost our bravery to beat a decent press it was working earlier in the season ... it’s not now because we’ve lost our confidence to show for the brave pass and make another one ...

Because teams know they can make us jittery in our own 18 yard box from our own goal kicks. They also know they'll have time to regroup as we slowly take corners, throw ins and free kicks.

Quick free kick today got us a goal ..... though the insistence that madders has to take every corner pees me off ....

Both points valid again. there was a break away that Vardy won a throw in and I was looking at the space we had if Barnes had just jogged over and taken it quickly. Instead he stuck to the ‘plan’ and waited for Fuchs to come and take it and by then everyone was in position and we wasted it. instinct is half of what makes a great footballer, sometimes you just have to go off the feeling that you can catch a team napping.

Monsell1976 Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 When we play it quick and pass it around we are unstoppable, but during the dip we are slow and predictable, especially when teams sit in. The passing again down to believe at the minute is safe, and when we do try something a bit more adventurous it just isn’t coming off, and kasper just cannot pass full stop

Guest Kopfkino Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Lost count of the amount of times this season we have a goal kick and by the time they cut back from the replay we've lost it on the edge of our own box

Happened pretty much every time.
Benji Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 The difference is the first past through the press. City face a high press every week and it’s either a cut through pass or ball over the first line. Tonight we just went sideways and invited it higher and higher or pumped it long. Villa found a way over two legs to do a job on us, and we’ve lacked the quality of a City or Liverpool to turn one pass into an attack through the midfield.

Did that tonight, makes the attitude and desire seem non existent
