Gutted for him. But he's shown tonight that he's as good as if not better than Bottas. And Mercedes have cost him a win with that pit stop fiasco.

Russel was part of Mercedes young driver program but was kept out of the team by wolf in favour of bottas because he was faster than Hamilton, but Hamilton brings in more money due to his popularity.

It's an absolute travesty that Perez doesn't have a drive next season.

I echo the calls for him to replace Albon.

Perez is seen as too good to be a number two driver but not good enough to be a number one driver and red bull aren’t going to let verstappen leave, same reason as they didn’t want competition for vettel.

Yep, Albon needs binning. With both Mercedes having issues and Verstappen and Leclerc out, still can't finish in the top 5. Perez deserves that drive.

That is gutting for Russell.

Such bad luck.

Could be a Racing Point 1-2?

Surely Perez must get a drive next year ?

Bad luck for him, but the normally brilliant Pit team, Really f**ked up. Or it was political...!!!

Messes up Principal & ideology if you put  nr 20 Driver into the best car & he wins comfortably...

I am Really Happy for Perez, a endearing & deserving driver...but!!!

Mercedes Pit, do only an average job, Russell wins....With Bottas 2nd...I

But we see in all sport.....shit happens.!! and nice people can still Trump other nice people..!!

Question for you all...

Is Lewis Hamilton really all that great? How much of it is the car?

Stick someone who rarely scores a point in his usual car and he should have won bar extremely bad luck and team man. Russell looked nailed on to win comfortably.

It has always been more of the car than the driver. Hamilton however has the fewest limitations on the grid and against most if not all drivers in history, and is generally a 9/10 or better in all departments. People are focusing too much on Russell never having scored a point, he's in the slowest car. but is generally seen as one of the best talents. Plus he's driven every Mercedes car for a number of years (not sure about the 2020 car) so he's not a total stranger to the team. Him being on the pace on a short track with few corners that no one has ever driven isn't much of a surprise. As I said a few days ago people are congratulating Russell while also claiming his weekend is proof that Hamilton's success is down to the car, without realising they are dismissing what Russell has achieved. Can't have it both ways.

Hamilton would more than likely not score points in a Williams, except maybe for mad days like in Austria this year or Mugello. But neither would Schumacher. All F1 drivers in an even car are probably within .5 of each other IMO. Messi wouldn't be as good or have a trophy cabinet that he does if he'd played at Morecambe for his entire career with League Two level players.

People underestimate how good Russell is because he's been stuck at Williams for two years with a terrible car. He basically wiped the floor with F3 and F2 in back to back seasons. And today he flew past Bottas the first chance he got after the screwed up pit stop. Plus he made a few more really good passing moves after that. And that was all after he controlled the race from the start. Add in the fact he had a less than perfect fitting seat and boots a size too small.

Yes the car is good, but he outperformed Bottas today in his own car after stepping into it for the first time on Friday.

A lot of it is the car, I mean thats probably the best car in f1 history and at the level you have to be to get into f1 the vast majority of the grid could get a win in that car over the course of the season and during his era of dominance nobody has come close to the Mercedes, so they've never really be in a position where they need those extra tenths from a complete elite driver to stay in the title fight. Saying that though, it doesn't discredit hamilton too much in my opinion he is a great all round driver but his success is primarily down to make the right move at the right time which is a big part of formula 1, you look at someone like Alonso who probably shouldve had more than 2 world titles make the wrong moves time and again
