Still only 3 subs can be used but they can roll on and off. gives players a break (most of us were glad of a ten minute break midway through being somewhat past our physical prime), allows for a short term tactical change etc. This could then be used if a player requires treatment, they have to go off the field immediately and be replaced, with the option of coming back on later (possibly in a different position/formation). This would certainly stop some of the time wasting and play acting, as there is no guarantee that once taken off that player would necessarily get back on again. There would need to be limits such as each sub can only be rotated a maximum of say 2 or 3 times in a game. That could mean upto 18 substitutions in any one game. Would be a nightmare and ruin the flow of the game. I don’t think it’d be necessary anyway, the players shouldn’t need to be coming off for a break, there’s half time for that.
Fox92 Posted 27 April 2020 Posted 27 April 2020 More stockpiling to get bigger squad. More time wasting. No thanks.
shailen Posted 27 April 2020 Posted 27 April 2020 One to think about maybe if a player gets injured as a result of a foul where the offender gets a yellow card or a red card, then a free substitution should be allowed. It seems currently unfair where team lose a player to injury because of a bad tackle and have no more substitutions.
ajthefox Posted 27 April 2020 Posted 27 April 2020 No thanks. As others have said it will just aid the big boys and their massive squads. And besides, I think it removes the challenge of having limited number of subs in the first place. Wouldn't be surprised to see a fair few clubs vote for this but hopefully the majority vote no.

Because 5 out of 7 is going to be difficult to pre-judge the make up of the 7. I would prefer this. I am sure the Italian league allows this and international tournaments like the euros and World Cup do it also.
Grebfromgrebland Posted 27 April 2020 Posted 27 April 2020 We need the extra subs because players aren't going to be match fit and could be asked to play a lot of games in a short amount of time. We don't want unnecessary injuries to our players.

International matches have 12 subs on the bench, and other leagues -- Italian, several South American -- have huge sub benches. Why not 7 over 21 and 5 under, to help youth development
FoyleFox Posted 27 April 2020 Posted 27 April 2020 If it's a temporary thing I'd have no objection, gives the option of more players getting some match time and reduces risk of injuries if we're going to play extra games in a short time period.
Nicolo Barella Posted 28 April 2020 Posted 28 April 2020 I'm in favour of a 4th substitution for concussion victims. Any more *as a permanent change* would change the game too much.
ozleicester Posted 28 April 2020 Posted 28 April 2020 Make them "rolling" substitutions, so the game doesnt stop for them. Look at Aussie rules for how they do it... stops the manager wasting time as it means that the players are efffectively out of the game for the change over time.
