If we play 3-4-1-2 then he is going to be a wing back, however if we are going 4-1-4-1 next season then I'll be fuming if we don't recruit another winger. We are weakest in this area, creativity and goals have dried up in the 2nd half of the season and although Ricardo would do a job in a more advanced role, he's one of the best right backs in the world so moving him forward seems highly unnecessary.

The situation will be much clearer when he's back from injury. He looked great on the (left) wing the one time I remember seeing him play in a more advanced role (away at Everton towards the end of Puel's run). Obviously ideally we'll sign a right winger who'll hit the ground running and keep Ricardo where we know he's amazing. But I don't think we should dismiss the idea, if say Justin or Castagne do brilliantly at the start of the season, we fail to bring in a new right winger and Perez/Gray/Albrighton get off to a slow start.

Sounds like the cheap option. Can’t let the club get away with this imo. Sign a winger!!!!

Played left wing that day and was the only remotely decent player on the pitch. He can play anywhere and shine but at right back he is unplayable at times rampaging forward.
