Removal of triple lock to find suicidal care would be superb

They would still be guaranteed a rise AT LEAST as high as inflation. And there'd be a national care service so nobody would have to lose their home to care costs.

Who could argue with that being an absolute boon to pensioners?

As I understand it, he is proposing to fund the personal / healthcare element, not the residential & food etc element, so if you need to be in residential care you probably still need to fund it through your home.

Oppositional parties and virtually all newspapers, radio stations and social media will become hysterical about it when in reality not too much would change in the state pension.

Fagage would put a picture out of an impoverished OAP against images of immigrants drinking champagne with a statement that we can't pay pensions as all the money is being used to fund their lifestyles.

He has said exactly that. It is the care costs that will be funded, NOT 'board and lodging'.

We really did lose our minds. It's was a great exercise in population control.

Can't wait to see how digital prisons develop.

Thing is though, the next crisis that hits us might not be so forgiving of people playing fast and loose with how much freedom they think they have.

Or they simply synthesise something much worse yet equally transmissible as Covid and release it into the atmosphere.

Tbf I hope that I am.

But going back to the topic at hand, the next natural crisis might be a fair bit worse than Covid and so may not give us the luxury of not "losing our minds" and not following rules to manage it.

Currently wearing a lovely pair of relaxed fit joggers with a pleat from the M&S Autograph line. We simply have to break free from the shackles of dated office wear and demand a more comfortable, modern look. The Future is now imho

What a silhouette they provide by the way

Yeah looks like you're right. I think the idea is more people get to stay at home with a proper care system though.

I've often thought that it would be cheaper to pay a relative enough to care for their parents/aunts/uncles etc.

Most people in care homes don't have complex care needs, they just need someone nearby in case of a fall, or to prepare a meal, or cleaning and other everyday tasks.

Unfortunately, carers allowance is a pittance, especially compared to how much a care home will charge to do pretty much the same thing.

Social care direct payments and NHS personal health budgets allow for this and there's widespread lying and manipulation by family members who misuse the budgets, lie about coverage and hours, and generally try to maximise how much funding goes to them while offering minimal care. While I take your point that it probably does sound like not a bad idea, I'm not so sure.
