As good as Gill has been, this is an absolute shithouse innings. Dropped twice, nicked it twice and its not carried and one that's just nipped past his off peg. Just need our luck to turn.

I think that given the speed at which they're scoring, they will need to bat practically the whole day (or perhaps less five overs). That's still a lot of time to go.

Edit: They're more than halfway there in terms of total overs needed to face in the innings already, though.

I just think the new ball is the moment. The afternoons have just flattened out.

That's fair. Really need one of the established batters back on the pavilion by lunch or shortly thereafter.

He has definitely ridden his luck, but it's rare you get a chanceless ton in these conditions.

It will.

I don't think it will.

60ish overs to bat out with a dwindling batting line up, already without Pant.

Nigh on impossible task.

Saw on cricinfo site something similar. Entirely wishful thinking but I wonder, just ever so slightly wonder, if we could get to a point where we leave England with about 100 runs to win and to get that target within 10-15 overs. England could probably quite easily get to it but it'd make it one hell of an ending...

Can now see why the selectors were reluctant to select Dawson despite his first class record.

Mostly tidy, but doesn't threaten anywhere near enough.

India could easily get a lead of 150 the way they're going. England look flat.

Today show the importance of have a spinner who can  attack.

Dawson just hasn't threatened enough.

And taking your catches. Three really costly drops, Dawson's was a really straight forward one too.

Should've chose Rehan Ahmed

I get the impression that Bashir wasn't doing well enough  - whether they just dropped him or whether, to give them credit, they decided he needed some protection, I don't know. But then they cast around and came up with Dawson on the usual negative selection basis of the "safe pair of hands" of any other bowlers they could think of. I can see why they did it, but surely it's a very stop-gap decision? I would rather they tried out whoever they think they make take Down Under, and I'll be perplexed if that's Dawson. Though probably not surprised...

Easily is doing a lot of heavy lifting there!!

Lot of doubt towards England pulling off the win but we've seen many a time this series that all it takes is an over or two to get the momentum to shift away from a team any given moment.

You had it with the two early wickets.

We got it back with the big Gill & Rahul stand.

You got it back with them two getting out before lunch.

Seem to have wrestled it back a bit since then but once one of these goes it won't take much more to bowl us out I imagine...

Really can't see it. It's as flat as anything
