Some context to this. Yes he's bowled better this season in div 2 but his overall ability is still in question.

Poor economy rate, not great with bat or fielding and barely a threat unless a wicket is turning. Also factor in most of his wickets are caught on the boundary (cheap ones) and he doesn't have enough variations to confuse a batsmen.

Ahmed should've been selected in every facet he is better than Bashir but then again England don't know what to do with spin since Swann retired.

All reasonable points but, from Bashir's point of view, he's done everything England have asked of him - and, unlike Rehan, he's played regularly in the Championship. His fielding looks to have improved too.

Like you, I'd obviously prefer Rehan but would actually pick Crane above both of them. It seems people are still judging Bashir on past selection reasons, when we're all (rightly) claiming we want selection on county form. I'm no fan of the ECB but they can justifiably say they've picked him on how he's played so far this year.

I agree with you I think Crane is a better option right now as Dawson has retired.

Tbf Bashir has took wickets this year and I feel sorry for him for his mismanagement by the ECB.

The sooner Key/Mcullum are gone the better imo.

I don't agree with Dawson tbh - he just fired it in and i don't think that will take wickets at test level.

If England picked their best spinner, they'd pick Leach - I don't quite understand why he's been discarded so quickly.

Possibly because he's the "Ashley Giles" option - great for holding up an end and taking a few wickets when the conditions are good, but not a game changer often as someone like Swann was.

To be honest this has been a fault in the England lineup for a very long time - for some reason we've not really been able to produce world class spinners in the degree that other places have done.

Think winning the toss and batting first will be critical for whichever team, here.

Definitely. Duckett & Stokes are both due a few runs. Hopefully, Root does what Root does, Brook gets greedy & moves on from a quickfire cameo.

Brook in particular is due a monster after a few good starts.

Definitely have to bat first. Especially in this heat.

Surprised Robinson doesn't get picked. Interested to see how much Archer bowls and how his body holds up.

Rehan should’ve been playing here, Bashir will be a total waste (watch him take a 10fer). New Zealand have to be super disciplined and 600 is on the cards.

Like to think we would have done the same .as NZ are if batting,,..

Yeah, this is an absolute road.

I'd lump on the draw.

Depends what scoreboard pressure and fatigue does to England's batting effort.

Can see a Mitch Santner career best figures coming....

Tongue should be stronger there, to not ask Stokes to review.

Clearly swinging away a lot and totally missing leg stump. He didn't look convinced at all deciding to review either.

I don't think Stokes is enjoying himself out there. He's looking more and more like old man Steptoe by the minute.

Bet he's wishing he was suspended for this one too, not a day for a ginger man to be out in the sun all day lol

I really feel like he’s suffering with his mental health, I see it in his eyes as someone going through the same thing.

I bet Ollie Robinson is the happiest person in the UK to have been left out.

Surprised they've not chucked Bethell the ball for a period to see what happens.
