Sources: Leicester City plot raid to sign Caceres as asking price revealed
Leicester City have set their sights on signing Uruguayan defender Sebastian Caceres, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The centre-back, 21, is attracting interest from Europe’s leading clubs after making a name for himself in Mexico with Club America.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Leicester are plotting a raid for Caceres as they look to strengthen in central defence.

America value the Uruguayan rising star at around the £20million mark.

Leicester’s three senior centre-backs are Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana and Caglar Soyuncu.

Evans is 33 while there are doubts over the long-term futures of in-demand pair Fofana and Soyuncu.

Fellow centre-back Filip Benkovic meanwhile returned from OH Leuven at the end of 2020-21 following a fourth loan spell in as many seasons.

Caceres is under contract until December 2024 with America, for whom he made over 100 appearances since signing.

The defender, who began his career with Liverpool Montevideo in Uruguay’s portside capital, moved north to Mexico to join America in January last year.

Caceres has four appearances for Uruguay Under-23s and has also represented his nation at Under-22, Under-21 and Under-18 levels.

He has been involved in America’s pre-season campaign and played as recently as last Saturday (10th July) in a 1-0 victory over Tigres UANL.

Leicester City, who missed out on a Champions League spot on the final day, conceded more goals than any other team in the top eight in the Premier League last term.

Brendan Rodgers will be aiming for more fortitude as they approach their 2021-22 season opener against Wolves on 14th August.

Doubts from where? Speculation in the media it means?

I hate it when these articles come out with false quotes to back up their weak transfer story.

He’s actually very good. Seen him play a handful of times and he was excellent in all of them. Only “downside” is that he’s got no experience of playing football in Europe like Kabak does, but I’d prefer Caceres if there was a choice between the two

Both have been linked with moves away haven't they? I think that is what it will be

On the player, never heard of him, thought it was that bloke who used to play for Juventus first

Linked by who? I get the feeling, Fofana especially, absolutely loves it here.

Yes. Lovely cultural signing.

Not seen him play though lol

but he sounds good - definitely meets our criteria of plucking someone out of obscurity (to an extent) and is young and will have a high sell-on value...

Fair enough (although I haven't a clue who those sources are)

Both Spanish rags, could be the equivalent of The S*n to tbf

Whoever has linked us with Caceres probably didn't both to look into the fact that we are after a centre back whatever happens with those 2 anyway

Is Anderson ‘the steering wheel’ Perry on stand-by for this? This has 100 pages potential should it have legs.

Legend says he's still being held captive by an Amazon tribe after a break down in negotiations on one of his scouting assignments.

... As far as risk goes, this is the equivalent of letting a junkie house sit for you when you go on holiday.

Exactly. Gerrimin.

Where's the cash coming from? They haven't got a pot to piss in, particularly Barcelona who are in a complete mess!

Like any of the cash deals they are trying, Barcelona most likely would've tried to involve players in the deal to drastically reduce the cost

This was all way before the news came out about how screwed they were with the salary cap etc.

Real Madrid are going to be making some decent money from selling players so would certainly be able to put down cash for Fofana - not that I think they would anyway

Yet to even get in contact or make a formal move for him of any kind

Leicester yet to make ‘formal offer’ for defender – Unclear if club will be ‘willing to negotiate’

Leicester City are yet to make an offer for Sebastián Cáceres despite reports of their interest from England.

That’s according to Mexican newspaper Récord, who say the Foxes are yet to make their move for the centre-back.

Leicester have been linked with a move for Cáceres over the last few weeks, with it believed that they are looking at the defender as they look to bolster their squad this summer.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are in need of a new centre-back to replace Wes Morgan, who has left a hole in the squad after his retirement.

It was felt a transfer could be on the cards after English media named him as a potential target but Récord report that they are yet to make their move.

They’ve been in touch with those in charge of CF América, who have made it clear Leicester have not contacted them or launched a ‘formal offer’ at this moment in time.

The player and the club are simply focused on next season at this moment in time and waiting to see if the Foxes decide to make a formal bid.

At this point in time, it’s not clear if CF América will be ‘willing to negotiate’ a deal as they would have to find a replacement in a short space of time.

That is a problem for another day, though, with Leicester yet to be in contact or make a move for the 21-year-old.
