Our squad looks strong.

This season, we have more than a team's worth of players that it will be difficult to leave out.  In my opinion, 14 or more

Schmeichel

Pereira, Castagne, Bertrand (maybe Thomas, Justin when fit)

Fofana, Evans, Soyuncu

Ndidi, Tielemans, Maddison (hopefully Soumare)

Barnes, Daka, Iheanacho and Vardy

Pre last season, with Pereira injured; Barnes and Justin at an earlier stage of development; Iheanacho not firing; and not knowing enough about Castagne, in my opinion we had 7 players it would have been difficult to leave out.

I may be slightly out with numbers but our strength in depth is promising.  Hopefully one or more of Kabak (if he signs), KDH, and Sowah will step up too.

There are going to be unlikely players that hit form when the established players are injured or out of form like with JJ / Ricardo and a problem we would have had if Barnes was fit when Iheanacho and Vardy were playing as a front 2 last season.

Good thing is that we have the squad to cover bad form and injuries. Rosgers man management in keeping everyone happy will be more important than ever

It’s exactly what we need. Depth. We’ll have as many games as last season but nowhere near as condensed, so hopefully fewer injuries. We didn’t have a full strength XI last season because of all our injuries. Hopefully this season it’s the same but because we have a much stronger squad.

Erm...yes.

Erm... I feel confident about Daka.  Erm... I am not yet confident about Soumare being hard to leave out.  Erm... I am hopeful

It's not about leaving people out it's about the best 11 for the tactics/formation being played and rotation based on fitness both physical and mental. Of course they'll always be some player that will play a lot more than others but football now is all about squad size not a 1st Eleven.

No player rotated on the above basis should ever feel they been dropped or talked about in that manner which we see a lot of in the Match Threads.

I'm pretty sure we didn't once get to play out "best" XI in even one game last season, or if we did, we had players not quite back to peak form like Ricardo.

It probably will be the same this time round given we now look to play 45-55 games a season. But regardless this is the best squad we've ever had by miles. It says a lot that even if all three of our summer signings were flops (which they won't be), we'd still have a strong first 15 or so players. We were poor against Slavia last time round, but it was partly due to being absolutely spent on the pitch. I noticed in Bertrand's interview he talked about Europe a lot, and I think that will be the cup priority this time round. Villareal won it last year and though they played well, I'd fancy our chances of beating them if we played them. We've proved we can beat anyone on our day, even in a final!

Agreed, Europa league is a competition we can win with the squad we have and one route into the CL. We've come up short in the league due to squad depth in the first full season under BR and exhaustion last season imo, from going deep in various competitions. Whichever way you look at it, improving squad depth with quality players is essential.

A hundred times this. As we continue to become a force in world football it’s time to lose the idea of our best eleven and focus on picking the best team for the job. In the recent Euros, Mancini rotated his squad often, especially during games, even taking off star players like Veratti and Insigne to keep things fresh. Now we have a squad where our “backup” players might themselves be a top 10 league side or better, full of internationals and / or young players wanting to prove their worth.

Our signings so far have been superb:

- Explosive striker with pace to burn and used to high pressing football.
- Box to box midfielder with physicality, technical skill and energy for days.
- Experienced and accomplished left back who is extremely reliable to deputise for younger and raw players in the same position.

This gives us a lot of flexibility in how we setup but also how to change things in games. Getting overrun in the middle of the park? Soumare. Daka and Vardy means one explosive striker off the bench to counter when holding a lead. Bertrand can play LB or LWB.

And it seems like we aren’t done yet if links to Kabak are to be believed.

It has been said elsewhere that interest in Kabak is nonsense and RW is the priority.
