I don't think Leicester's achievement can be bettered. But, this is as close a sporting result as I think I will ever see. A completely unprecedented achievement.

It ain't football though is it?

You ain't ever going to get a kid from the council estate being a tennis star, let's get that thing right.

It's an elitist  sport.

Ok, just to be clear, is it your opinion that tennis is only an elitist sport in this country?

Yes.

Compared to football, which I was.

100%

Over to you.

Fine, your argument is a lot clearer if you state that initially.

We live in a elitist country, sadly. But Raducanu didn't win because she's from privilege, she won because she's bloody brilliant.

If you read my initial comment you'd have depicted from it that I WAS comparing it to football.

Anyway, well done to her.(I dont think anyones HAS  come on here and hammered her, I think people are abit precious and want us to have street parties  tomorrow  for her achievement!!!)

There really isn't!..

It's just plain ignorance!

Some football supporters are so blinkered and put down other sports such as tennis.  They've obviously never played the game and competed competitively !!

There's no hiding place on court (like Perez and Maddison can find on a football pitch half the time!).

And what a load of garbage about tennis being an elitist sport!

That's just inverted snobbery.

I think maybe a bit of both, it certainly helps when your parents can afford to put you in a Tennis Club at 6 and the gift you have is recognised and nurtured from such a young age.

It's completely the opposite of when I first started watching tennis in the 80s - the men's game was where anyone could win, and the women's was a duopoly (although the top 2 would change as players retired.)

In the late 60s and early 70s Rod Laver seemed unbeatable.

Much more unlikely in the UK. It just doesn't seem a "thing" with WC kids, although she may well have changed this.

Winning a league is the hardest thing in sport. Appreiciate tennis doesn't have the equivalent competition but winning a tournament is 'less difficult' than a league where everyone plays the same level of completion twice. If she has the best record against the top 10 compared to the others over a year or so then I'd say it's relatively comparable, but the money in football and the way the big clubs have monopolised the game makes our achievement truly unmatched.
