It doesn't quite frankly. Raducanu's win was incredible but tennis is still a true 1 v 1 pure sport.

Football has been corrupted by billionaires and corporate intrests and is no longer a pure and fair sport. A small unfashionable club from the east Midlands had to compete with Abu Dhabis Man City, Abramovics Chelsea, the historical might of Man United and Liverpool most of them with 20 times the money to spend on player wages and transfers and we beat them all.

That makes it a lot more of a special and unlikely achievement in my opinion.

However what I will say is raducanu's was a lot more convincing to not even drop a set in 10 matches is like us winning the league and going unbeaten.

She's still basically won a trophy out of nowhere, I think that's where the comparison is.

Not quite- her wins at Wimbledon were  impressive , and she was doing very well in the fourth round game until she had the breathing issue.
I enjoyed  watching her last night- great talent, fearless and focused against a crowd mostly wanting Fernadez to win.
When you hear the back story, including playing from the age of 5 , and looking  at the “ team” there last night (  was it 6 ?), it probably wasn’t that unexpected in tennis circles.
Not like our fairytale for me.

I think she will now be a big player for years.

With all do respect it’s a phenomenal achievement from an 18 year old especially as the first ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam.

When you look at past recent US Open female winners it kind of puts it in context.

Winners like Bianca Andreescu who won it at 19 and has not done much past the first 2 rounds in any slam since.

Try finding another Leicester to compare.

499 - 1 at start

I’m guessing that would be Betfair, so traditional bookies would probably have been lower.
Massive achievement from her, but not as big an upset as our win because she has the potential to win many more majors and become world number 1. She also showed good form at Wimbledon. Ours was a greater upset as we shouldn’t have been able to win over 38 matches against the big teams.

You'll be eating your own words when we win the league again this season. :D

We have grown as a team and squad since then, so it wouldn’t be such a crazy upset anymore. However, we aren’t winning due to the current top 4 getting stronger all the time.

....great achievement but Tracey Austin and Capriati were playing competitive tennis at 13 and 14 years of age in a more competitive era!!!

Looking at Raducanu's march to the title there was no one of any note apart from Bencic who had won the Olympics but people would have been unlikely to have been aware of her.

As they say you can only beat what is in front of you.

I would imagine the odds compliers would feel more secure with men's tennis than the women's game. I often feel like any one can beat any one on the day in the womens' game - even Serena would lose unexpectedly when she seemed untouchable.

Sometimes the bookies won't even offer a market on Djokovic losing because it's so unlikely (although they'll still offer a pit full 100/1 on the opposition) which stops the millionaire making a few pennies on a dead cert...

I would imagine that Emma will go on to the next tournament and then quite likely lose to some nobody and then the bookies will make a killing that way too.

Fernandez had beaten 3 top seeds on her way to the final and Radu blew her away in straight sets..

She had 3 matches to even qualify for the main draw!... Then won another 7 in straight sets !!.. didn't even face a tiebreaker in any of the 10 matches!

.. put all those stats together and it's extremely unlikely that the feat will never happen again!...

That's what makes it so remarkable and unique.

Why has everything got to be a pissing contest.

Just enjoy the kids achievement without worrying how it stacks up against a completely different one.

It's not a contest it's a discussion!!

Calm down dear 😂

Watched a few of the highlights and I thought Raducanu had a really good chance from fairly early on she was so far ahead of her opponents.

When we won the title in 2016 I didn't believe it until it happened and the reality kicked in when Vardy's party video came on Sky Sports News after the Chesea Spurs match.

I don't think you can say which is the greatest they are both remarkable achievements in their own field but I think 5000/1 was not unrealistic going into the 2015/16 season and from the odds standpoint it maybe has the edge.

Well I've been watching tennis since the late 1960s and I can safely say that the depth of ability in the women's game right now is far far greater than it has ever been. A player ranked say 40-50 now is as good as someone ranked 15 back in the early 80s.

You can't realy compare the two achievements. I think all you can safely say is that both are up there among the greatest sporting stories of all time and both will be talked about in years to come as achievements that were off the scale of imagination and predictability at the time.

Celebrate both they're worth it.

It's completely the opposite of when I first started watching tennis in the 80s - the men's game was where anyone could win, and the women's was a duopoly (although the top 2 would change as players retired.)

All I can say is that I was pacing the room last night just as I did at around 21:40 on 02.05.2016. Had to break into my old man’s whisky to steady the nerves.
It’s still all about performance under pressure whether it’s football or tennis.
She’s basically a supermodel who happens to be articulate, intelligent & a world class tennis player.
