Did the Silverstone 10k today in what was absolutely abhorrent weather, 40mph winds, hail you name it. Old airfield so open to the elements. Did it is 49.16, came 307th/1900 which I’m happy with for first race.

didn’t bother trying to get near the front so ended up crossing start line around a minute after the gun went off, so placing would have been higher but something to note next time.

not done a park run yet so eyeing some up over the next few weeks. Any recommendations for most enjoyable Leicester ones?

Club run last night and the group was largely made up of faster runners who wanted a good hill to run up. Pretty impressed that I was able to keep pace going up and have improved on a segment time of 8:36 in Jan to 6:27 last night.

Aim is now to work hard over the next few months to keep the Christmas weight off and keep chipping time away on my runs. I've got Wakefield 10k lined up in March which I ran in 49:10 this year, albeit with a small injury, going to work towards going sub-45 which will be a big ask.

i've learnt quite a lot about this running malarkey of the last few days

apparently there are socks that make you run better, earphones that don't actually go in your ear that you are only allowed to use.. oh and people have multiple pairs of running shoes, some for training, some for slow runs and one pair for race day?!

In all seriousness, it's good that a lot of people have got into it over last few days. I loved being amongst a few thousand people running it was a great experience.

Any tips for good running gear to ask Santa for Christmas? got a windproof breathable running jacket so far and getting the Garmin forerunner 55 watch - don't need a fancy one

P.s. why are all the nice colours in running trainers constantly sold out? easier to get a rolex.

I quite like the Asics metaspeed sky paris and Asics Novablast four

Work colleague ran the half and said the organisation was totally shocking.

Re: Leicester park runs - I don't think any one of them are particularly bad (or equally great compared to some). Only Hastings in the county I would say is pants

We only realised this after it made a lot of sense, the organiser has had a flood of complaints. Apparently the people who did the half marathon it was 200metres short so they had to run around after the finish line (which no one could even see), mess at the start with no organisation with pens etc. delayed for 15 minutes whilst everyone stood there soaked and cold.  As it was our first one we didn't know any better

Made it out this morning for a speed session and the weather was once again hideous!

Talking of socks, I swear by the Injinji or Hilly toe socks. Changed to them years back after getting numb toes and blisters and they have been such a good investment.

Getting back up to it now but the soreness in my rib is definitely noticable the day after exercise. Think it’s been 4 weeks since the injury so presume it’s pretty normal.

Anyone parkrunning tomorrow? Unsure of where to go as I’m not sure if I want a challenge or a PB pushing course

Watermead is off which makes the usual PB course of Abbey Park twice as busy. I'll be running Vicky Park as usual after a week off last week.

That didn't go well, listened to my body and pulled the plug at 5 miles. Felt something go.

Always for the best

Still a win getting out

Ended up at Trentham Gardens and simply had a nice, good, steady run. Nice to push the pace and spend some time in the 7 minute mile bracket but just happy to get round at the moment.

So stupidly warm though!

Well done mate! Sorry to hear about the injury though. I woke up with the sniffles but went ahead anyway. Did a PB of 22.08. So frustrated not to get below 22. The 20 minute pacemaker seemed so far in front of me!! I came 32nd overall and 2nd in my age category (im 48 - gulp). Lots to be proud of with the running since my life hit rock bottom in August. Ive lost about 10 kgs along the way as well.

I think I will set a target of 21.30 next year. It's do-able if I can lose a couple of KGS and keep the heart rate down during the race. Although Christmas is going to put a spanner in the works with that.

That's some superb running mate! I'm 37 and getting no way near those times anytime soon!

That's class pal, I'm 41 and I've had only x 2 5km runs below 23 mins this year. Smashing it mate.

Did the Benidorm half last weekend, i say half but decided to drop down to the 10k so I could run with my wife. Such a fantastic event with over 6.5k runners and 43% were british. Weather was between 20-25 over the 4 days we were there. Having never been there i wasbunsure what yo expect but Stayed in the old town which I think gets an unfair rep. Didn't venture to the sleazy side though.

Other than that I'm going for a PB at a park run next week so hope watermead is on.

Being far too sensible after getting back on it by gradually working up from 5k to longer so did 8k today.

The ballot for the Eryri marathon opens up at mid day today so I’m going to enter that. Looks like all kinds of fresh hell but it’s a year away so plenty of time to get in good shape.
