START WILL ALVES YOU NORRIS

The more evidence that is presented to me, the less confidence I have in Rodgers bringing through the youths. Luke Thomas aside, when his hands were firmly tied, he seems to have very little trust or desire to play academy prospects. Still can't believe that we played 120 mins in Belgium and Alves and Nelson didn't even see pitch time. With Braybrooke and Wright getting about 10 mins.

I'm afraid I also think that too and hope to be proven wrong.

I don’t think that is necessarily true in comparison to Rodgers?

Puel gave club debuts to:

Barnes

Choudhury

Knight

Rodgers has given club debuts to:

Leshabela

Madivadua

Alves

Brunt

McAteer

Hirst

Daley-Campbell

Tavares

Thomas

KDH

If we could combine Puel's ability to put together a squad, Rodgers' man management and Bielsa's coaching.

That'd be a manager I'd give a 20 year contract to :D

Did you leave KDH off the list on purpose?

He was asked about this last season and he said that he'd rather not chuck in young players into an injury ridden and completely dysfunctional side as it would be of not benefit to their development. And I'm inclined to agree

I'd expect much more youth involvement this season with a less dysfunctional squad and 5 subs

Indeed, no excuses this season so we'll see how it goes.

This is now his perfect opportunity to blood youngsters. Not only because it is the only realistic solution to the financial issues we and many clubs like us are going to face but surely it's one of the biggest benefits they'll be anticipating from the £100m new training ground. Also, he can make a statement that he's having to play x amount of youth players because he isn't being backed with the funds to overhaul his squad.

We need to tell those players we want out that they are not being Co sodered for the 1st team and some of them in a World Cup year will not want to play poker with them over it and get their agents to get some deals done.

Only Thomas and KDH made appearances, majority of your list was pre season

The ones I have listed under Rodgers have made at least 1 appearance in the league or cups, not pre-season only

Hirst played in the prem, as did Tavares, Leshabala and McAteer.

Brunt, Alves, Madivadua, Daley Campbell all played cup games against prem sides.

The 5 sub rule should hopefully see some of them get more opportunities as we tend to put a few on the bench as we suffer a lot of injuries.

Rodgers could really make a statement though my favouring a few of them over muck he no longer wants to keep but whom won't leave/have any takers. We will also become a much more favourable club to attract younger players who know they'll get chances here. It's the key solution to reducing our wage bill to 70% of our turnover.

That only applies to three of them. To be fair, the bottom four have all started games of note.

Only 2 of them (Madivadua and Alves) have only appeared in that game

Thomas has got minutes, KDH counts, Alves had some minutes last season, and he's just started Braybrooke and Wright, Brunt has seen some action before, VDC saw some minutes too, and Tavares saw 45 minutes in the Premier League. He's not perfect, and Puel definitely persisted with youth a lot more esp Chilwell and Hamza, but I can't really criticise Brendan too much although I'd like him to give the youth a chance since we'll have next to no transfers.

Giving someone a random game or few minutes isn't blooding youth for me.

As I say, he has his excuses for last season, so fair enough. Those exuses no longer exist, so let's see what he does this season.

Hope so.

Really hoping we get some lower league teams in first few rounds of the league cup, to give them some game time.

In the last 2 seasons we have draw 3 PL sides and a Championship side out of 4 ties.

Be nice to get a couple of rounds of L1 and 2 sides.

In be tempted to chuck one of Wright, Alves, Madivadua or Maswanhise in the deep end at RW in the first PL game.

Agreed, I am happy to temper expectations if we are clearly looking to regroup and rebuild with a core group of young players who are the future here. We are in a pickle and must swallow our pride and have confidence in the fact we are a special club that doesn't just conform to tired and limiting football clichés. OK we might no longer be the best of the rest and often better than some/all of the others who ought to blow us away and as fans we have to accept that if thst happens but do it by being an exciting and young squad who have a clear pathway from academy through to first team with the best facilities in the whole of Europe and let's face it the world.

Well, Barnes, Thomas and KDH were successful youth products who got most of their time under Brendan. But yeah, with our lack of transfers he really needs to be putting in extra effort this pre season and season.

That is the bargaining chip and we need to play it.
