We've finished 5th, 5th and 8th in the last 3 seasons. So no, I'm not.

I feel like it could be a stronger league this season. Like I said I don't think we'll go down but I reckon we might be in the conversation a bit later in the season

You asked for alleviation - take it or leave it :)

I'd consider myself a large half glass full fan with us but definitely half empty going into the season!

However, no way we're in a relegation scrap. We have far too much quality. You only have to look at how dire the performances were for a large chunk of the season, yet we never got dragged into a scrap and still somehow finished 8th. I know people will argue that you're never too good to be relegated but I think the amount of times out quality bailed us out last year just shows that we  have probably reached that stage (with this squad) where our worst is still going to be be better than plenty of teams performances, averaging it out over the season.

Mate,

Have a look at this team...

Study the players that are in it, and explain to me how in gods name they get less than 40 points next season?

Madness!

I agree but how often have we been able to put out that side? Also the personel of the defence doesn't seem to impact greatly on our set piece problems (unless I'm wrong on that)

Stating the obvious here but I do think no European football will help us massively in terms of keeping the squad fit and being able to fully focus on the league.

The lack of incomings is of course a slight concern but I am confident we will bring a couple in…..eventually!

Let’s not forgot how good our squad is when everyone is on the ball. Certainly going to be an interesting season.

Who is that new signing Justin Pereira?  Never heard of him.

We finished 8th last year with the added burden of Europe, one of the worst injury crisis's in living memory and a complete inability to defend from corners. theres more of a case to say we are gonna be better this season not worse. Obviously providing we don't loose anyone important and don't adequately replace them.

Oh yay another thread!! lol lol

This is genuinely not meant as a doom mongering thread or a Rodger in/out debate but am I wrong to be concerned about us potentially being in the relegation mix next season?

Obviously the transfer window still as a way to go but i think it's pretty safe to say any dealings will be minimal.

My main concerns are these long runs of poor form and performances we go on under Brendan. It really does take us a long time to turn things around when we're in a slump. Another worry is obviously the set piece deficiencies that we simply never address which will continue to cost us goals. I've not seen anything to change my mind on that.

Our inactivity in the transfer window is obviously a hot topic at the moment and although new signings aren't essential to a successful season they do help breathe some life into a lacklustre squad.

I do fully expect us to survive just based on the overall quality we have but I don't see it being comfortable. The reduced amount of games could be vital and hopefully we get luckier on the injury front also.

So you glass half full fans do me a favour and alleviate my worries!

We generally don’t do this. The longest winless streak under Rodgers is five games last season in December/January which tbf included a win over Watford in the cup amongst it  - you have to go back into the 19/20 season when we didn’t win in four.

There’s always a win which ticks us over

You know what I stand corrected then. It really does feel to me like we go months without a win sometimes lol

Please don't take this badly, but relying solely on 'feeling' tends to be  inaccurate.

Not as often as we would like obviously, but with a lot less football and longer breaks between matches the players are going to be able to have a lot more recovery time and even just that hopefully should reduce our injury issues quite a bit compared to the past couple of seasons - I wouldn't be surprised if we still have a few injury issues as it is the Rodgers way, but we are going to be a lot less likely to lose people through running them into the ground when they only have 1 game a week rather than 3 in 10 days etc.

I know Rodgers has mentioned that missing Ndidi makes a big difference for set pieces when we have a pretty small squad in general anyway, and I think the conceding from corners issue although still there was a lot less prevalent once Fofana was back in the team as well

The amount of cup games last season gave that impression I think

I'm not the most optimistic fan around but I can't see relegation being a realistic possibility. Worst case I think we'll wind up lower mid-table, 13th or 14th maybe, and Rodgers will leave under a cloud at the end of the season. If the lack of European football helps us keep players fit and maybe go some way to sorting set pieces out (two of the bigger ifs you'll see this year I admit) then I reckon 7th or maybe even 6th if a couple of the big boys implode for long enough to have their season derailed. More likely is probably somewhere between the two.

I don't believe we'll get to the end of the window without shifting and bringing in at least a player or two but even if we did I'd be disappointed rather than massively concerned. The bigger worry for me is next summer when at this rate not only will we be looking at a pretty unprecedented exodus, we'll also have key players in Ndidi and Maddison and a good option in Iheanacho down to their last year.

It does but I'm very much a feelings kind of fan. Very rarely study the stats
