Villa - Postponed

It would have been plain silly to postpone matches for fear of protests because there will be minutes silence at all grounds in the next match regardless. The truth is it has been planned for years in an agreed mark of respect by the national game.

It was hard for cricket as the test match had already started and it couldn’t be replayed at a later date while rugby has a much lower profile so it’s much less under scrutiny. Football is the national sport and has to consider all opinions rather than just the subsection of fans who don’t like a weekend without games. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t so they took the safest option all round.

It hasn’t been planned foe years! They decided in a meeting on Friday and then told the clubs, some of whom objected to the decision. It was all done on the hoof in an incredibly cack-handed way.

Agree...the premier league is the highest profile sport in the world, and as such carries a higher significance

I think all English football league will play Tuesday also?

They are, so the theory that it is because the prem is high profile and they dont trust the supporters is rather less likely, they can put simulated crowd noise in and easily take it out or simply not show the minutes silence if they dont want to accept dissenting voices.

In and of itself the cancellation was unimportant in the grand scheme of things (loss of peoples hard earned  money excepted).

What it really does is spotlight the massive divide between us the great unwashed (and despised) and the privileged elite.

This cancellation was all about self important people looking to curry favour with the powerful establishment.

That is football cancelled forever then.

Innit. Baffling people believe this blatant nonsense. They called it off because it suited them best, and they trotted out some easily anger -inducing crap to make the people fight against each other. Go on Twitter if you dare and there’s a sizeable number of people actually saying ‘Liverpool and Celtic fans got games called off this weekend’ You realise how easy it is to con people

No, the meeting on Friday was to confirm the application of the planned protocol- nothing on the hoof about it

If Rodgers is still in charge I don’t think I’m going to bother.

Another week of walking through gloating away fans on the way out. No thanks!
