Ok, ask yourself what position the new prince of Wales ( William and Villa fan ) holds in football. then ask yourself why Rugby, cricket, and horseracing all went ahead. Hypothetical?  I think not.

Well, it is hypothetical because no fanbase has booed anything this weekend.

Don't get your point re other sports. There's royal patronage of all the ones you listed.

Is anyone moaning on here about the mourning also against the extra bank holiday?

Luckily I work bank Holidays. I'll be suffering mourning fatigue by the time the funeral comes round.

Isn't Prince Harry involved with the RFU for example or has that gone now he isn't a "royal"

It was Harry, now moved to the new Princess of Wales.

And correct, it wad due to him stepping down from royal duties.

Looking at the cricket highlights it seems all advertising space was blacked out. I wonder if that’s part of the reason the PL cancelled, broadcast and commercial weren’t willing to give up their space. Whatever the reason i highly doubt it had anything to do with respect for the monarch

I think you are nearing the truth there. It will have hurt the Premier League that the rest of the world has spent the weekend watching other European leagues.

Will British teams be not playing their European games this week then?

Yes they will - it’s down to the governing body of each league/competition. Only in Britain have games not gone ahead this weekend.

I can now understand why we football fans were virtually singled out as a "Can't be trusted" group

The trouble up Belgrave Rd last week was unruly Indian and Pakistani cricket supporters it seems.

I know it’s probably ‘the right thing to do’ but i don’t half miss the Prem games when they get postponed.
It genuinely makes the working week a bit more tolerable knowing the big games are looming up.

The leadership at the Premier league is embarrasing.

They've know that the demise of the great lady was appraoching given her age, and yet it seems they don't have any protocol for such events.

Just crazy.

It would have been better to play the games in the Queens honour like other sports and have the usual minutes silence.

There isn't much more ordinary people can do.

So why just football then?

Because the football authorities were desperate to lead the way in the ‘showing respect’ stakes and blundered into postponing games at all levels without giving it any real thought. Other sports took a more considered and sensible approach.

I think this is nearer the truth.

It would have been plain silly to postpone matches for fear of protests because there will be minutes silence at all grounds in the next match regardless. The truth is it has been planned for years in an agreed mark of respect by the national game.

It was hard for cricket as the test match had already started and it couldn’t be replayed at a later date while rugby has a much lower profile so it’s much less under scrutiny. Football is the national sport and has to consider all opinions rather than just the subsection of fans who don’t like a weekend without games. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t so they took the safest option all round.

The same reason football takes any decision, money. The sole reason they made this decision was to do with financials somewhere along the chain. As if the premier league care about respect etc.

The test match hadn’t started, where did you get that idea from, a ball hadn’t even been bowled. And of course it can be replayed. India cancelled last years final test match as they wanted to go off to the IPL and it was replayed this summer.

And of course it’s not been planned for years, if that was the case all matches would have been called off on Thursday night. They were meeting all Thursday night and into Friday to see if they can get games on and minimise loss of commercial income
