I don't see any rage, bizarre or not. I see bemusement at why the FA/PL/EFL & NL would issue a blanket postponement for football when virtually every other aspect of life continues unabated, including other professional sports.

I've seen quite abit.

The royal family is the pinnacle of the class system.

Whatever i or anyone else thinks i acknowledge thst  the queen did a good job in a role thrust upon her.  Yet she has lived in splendor.

However, us subjects need to get off our kneees and stop all this forelock tugging.  When a releative dies  i still go to football games.

Everyone moaning about the game being called off, or strike got called off yesterday and I didn't find out until I turned on the news in the morning!

Crouchy gets it.

Yes but I can also imagine cretins booing  and singing during the silence and national anthem ( especially Liverpool fans ) So it's probably saved us international embarrassment.

Funny how things work out as who knows when I’ll get home now so I’m delighted the football is off. Also I’m about a grand down with all these cancellations and extra hotel stays, wonder if the emotions police allow me to get annoyed at that, or is it ‘it’s only a day of your life mate what’s the problem!!!!’

Absolute sack of royalist crap.

When can we smile again, Mr Weller? After the funeral? How long after the funeral? Please can I smile and enjoy my life?

I've been to work today, I managed to emotionally manage that, would you be able to tell me why I can't emotionally manage a football game?

Horseshit from the royal bunch as usual. Jesus Christ.

Now there we are you go...!

Comparing her majesty with Jesus Christ...

When will it all end...

My morning Breakfast will never be the same..

The last thing the global community is going to be arsed about right now while watching our country is whether a tiny minority of people at a sports match boo a minute's silence, while hundreds of thousands of others respect it.

If that's seriously the reason it's been done then we might as well ban football forever because, newsflash, a tiny minority of grown men are always going to use football as an excuse to make a holy show of themselves in all sorts of scenarios.

There were no baying mobs on Thursday evening - why think it’s going to be any worse tomorrow ?!

I overdid the rhetoric as accepted yesterday evening - football fans singing unpleasant songs about opposition clubs and fans is not a baying mob. Its just tribalism.  But I’ll remake the point that at a time when possibly the majority of the country will be reflecting on things in the wake of the death of a monarch of 70 years, hearing fans singing unpleasant stuff doesn’t fit the ‘respectful’ narrative that should be in place less than 48 hours after her passing.

maybe the PL were nervous of their public image over the weekend

I’d be interested to know how this breaks down across the demographic and age groups

whether those who are 50+ are way more likely to feel that the postponements are correct.  Are females more inclined to be accepting than males ?   And if the clubs decided rather than the PL, look at the ownership of the clubs - are you surprised that they might view the death of the queen a little differently to fans aged 20-40 ??.

Maybe the other professional sports got it wrong. Just a thought.

So to summarise, football has bottled hosting a proper send off for the Queen, while the rest of sport does, because of what some made up fans might do.

Proper send off 😆. I don't really agree with it all but it's a historical event that's part of British history whether we like it or not. It's not completely all about mourning or respect even. It's about marking an event.

Plus she was arguably the most famous person in the world. Not a monarchist myself but surely everyone can see that?

Just odd that footballs the only thing shutting down then?

I think football will do a proper send off next weekend

a minutes silence for the queen and a rendition of god save the king to follow

the only issue would be games in the capital and i don’t think our game at spurs would be a problem. The Sunday could be more challenging with Brentford v arsenal and Chelsea v liverpool both in west London. I wonder if laying in state will be over by Sunday which will no doubt take a lot of police resources re security concerns.

Queen was patron of FA and William is President of FA so maybe football powers that be felt football has ties. Plus football is the national game.

And that won’t happen at the next game either way? They’re going to be doing black armbands and the national anthem the first game back regardless

Fair enough. Always two sides to everything. I would have gone if game on and can see merit in games going ahead. Now it's off I'll do something else. No big deal. I personally haven't lost any money due to this so perhaps can be philosophical about it. We will play the villa soon enough and, just possibly, might be in better shape. I have a ticket for Spurs game next weekend but that'll be off...poss good news on a footballing basis and there was going to be a rail strike anyway.

Lived in splendour. True. Poisoned chalice? Maybe.

I wouldn't swap for 5 minutes. Money looks good I'll give you that but my day in the square in Eindhoven and many other 'common man' pleasures are priceless in my view.

In the media this morning there seems to be very little - if any - criticism of the sports that a pressing ahead today. There are a few articles criticising football for its decision to postpone, however.

The media. Oh yeah them. It's just someone's opinion who has a keyboard and computer and works for a newspaper.

The point being simply that if the decision of the football authorities to postpone was driven by concern over their image, it seems to have backfired.

Backfired in the opinion of some journos. I get it. Some people are overly influenced by the media spin/narrative and in that sense I agree, it could have backfired. 👍
