He isn't the solution but he is a decent option. As is Mendy.

I wouldn't disagree.

But people are saying Praet should consistently start there. He shouldn't.

And Mendy is a decent back-up.

People are still pining for Lookman. He wasn't the answer either.

I think Praet would be great in his natural position.

As would Maddison.

The issue is that we are overloaded with central players and have no wide options, other than Barnes. And an ineffective Albrighton (although he gives his all).

Praet on the right isn't a solution and never will be.

I agree with you with everything except Lookman, who I think is very, very good and would have come cheap.

We'll agree to disagree on that then!

Lookman was very frustrating. And as I've said on here before, looked upon kindly for a winner against Liverpool, but the rest of his time here was pretty disappointing.

There's a reason he didn't stay long at all the other teams he's played for.

Hey, take that back! He’s our vice captain dontcha know (yet Youri is captain when Evans doesn’t play because our VC doesn’t get on the pitch) 🙈🤣

But he's played there the last few games?

Against two very poor teams. Don’t get me wrong though his performances have been decent considering but he’s not a defensive midfielder. He looks more of a box to box type player, taking the ball forward and being progressive with it yet he hasn’t been able to do that here.

We've got no other obvious solution. You just know it'll be Maddison back on the right though and the old issues will occur.

Yep. Think you can get away with him there against the weaker sides (even then I think you're pushing it) but for me if anything I'd have him where Tielemans plays, only I wouldn't because I'd just play Tielemans. Soumare's a tidy footballer but he's not particularly reliable. Really not that alert defensively and that's not something you'll coach.

Soumare isn’t what we’ve had in recent times in terms of CDM, the almost octopus like legs of Kante and the ndidi of old has made us expect a CDM to tackle and intercept everything. But Soumare is more of a rodri/ busquets CDM than them.

To fit Soumare into the system we need to change formation in my eyes. Either a 4-3-3 or even a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 but it won’t happen. Soumare is not the guy you want that will sit in front of the back four. He’s not good enough to do that.

Yep. Makes sense to start Praet on the right and pay Maddison centrally instead of KDH.

I think we will play a similar line up to last night which worked well. Youri playing a slightly deeper role with soumare and Praet on the right if he recovers well. KDH probably the one to make way for Maddison. Madders combines well with barnes and Justin and likewise a good understanding with Praet playing similar triangles with castagne and youri on the right side. A lot will depend on recovery. Praet hasn’t got many games in his legs and KDH did a half marathon!

The other Soumare solution is if we play a back three as well to have him as one of the midfielders. Don't think you need Ndidi if there's three CBs. That's how he played against Man Utd / Spartak a year ago.

I'm far from sold on Soumare still being honest. I half get the appeal but I'm still convinced he'll cost us at holding mid.

Yeah I'm a KDH fan but don't disagree with this idea that he probably needs a rest. He plays at probably the greatest intensity of all of our players. Makes sense given we have an alternative here.

I was thinking the same thing. Youri was playing deeper and pitching in defensively.

Go 4231 for Wolves with Praet wide and Madders in the middle. I know Praet isn't really a wide player but he was effective yesterday.

I think it is 50/50 of that happening. KDH is a remarkable athlete and Praet is bound to feel the after effects of the game last night. His first half was very impressive. I’d like to see Praet right and madders central but can see us potentially going back to Maddison on the right and KDH patrolling the left centre midfield.

Against teams outside the top 6 we should be playing Madders as a CAM with 2 wingers. While Praet is not an out an out winger at least he provided us with width and an outlet on the right, rather than everything going down the left like it has in recent games. That in turn gave Barnes more space on the left

...pretty much what has been said for years, the the problem has never been properly addressed!!!

It has not been about money, Rodgers never saw it as a problem for the team in respect of balance and the ability to create chances.

Rodgers has far too many blindspots, I suspect his new set piece also now has some input that mitigates Rodgers shortcomings.
