State of that thread, some of you lot should be ashamed of yourselves, TBF they are the usual suspects

He's dragging the team and the club down. His attitude stinks and we looked a far better team without him.

He is the number one reason we're playing so badly. Musa over Vardy all day long.

£20M to go Arsenal looks good now.

We'll pay them the £20m to take him off our hands!!!

Sell vardy save the club £120, 000 a week or what ever he's on for the next four years.

Neither him or Wes should even be on the bench. Drop them both till march then let them fight for a bench spot.

Get rid of both in the summer if anyone is stupid enough to pay them what we do. Just give them away if need be.

Duno about benching him....sell him more like but i doubt any one bar a promoted Sheffield Wednesday or some deluded Chinese team would take him,

When Jamie Vardy turned 30, it looked like his best days were behind him. He was in the middle of a long barren spell, and the consensus on this forum was that he should be dropped, as you can see in this thread (it's pretty entertaining):

Then Claudio was sacked, and Vardy got his mojo back.

This was his first goal after his 30th birthday:

100 goals from that day to this is an even more astonishing achievement than his 11 game scoring streak when he was 28.

But Jamie is just a support actor in this thread.

Predictably, the reports about him reaching that 100 mark refer only to the Premier League era. Which gives us a delicious irony. - a stat about being over 30 which leaves out all goals scored over 30 years ago.

I know those PL stats are a useful guide to the modern era, but it would be nice if the twitterati did a bit more research and told us the all-time figures occasionally.

Even Brendan was doing it last week, defending his record saying:

'We had two fifth-place finishes and an eighth-place, which is three out of four of the best finishes in the club's history I believe'.

Could it be that the man in charge doesn't own a copy of Of Fossils And Foxes? It only takes a few minutes glancing through that book to see that we've also finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, as well as a few other top eight finishes.

Spend a bit longer in those glorious pages and you can work out another statistic: Arthur Chandler scored even more goals than Vardy in the top-flight after the age of 30. His total was an incredible 189.

It's surprising that when we bought him he was already 27 - and had only scored 16 goals in professional football (at QPR). What a fantastic judge of a player Peter Hodge was. (I liked hearing on the recent England Squad thread how @Rob Clarke 's grandfather used to regale him with Channy stories.)

Here's a very rare photo of him at QPR (third in the line):

In his second season at Filbert Street we were promoted, and he then had ten seasons in Division One in which he set that amazing record. Just to repeat - 189 goals in the top flight after he turned 30.

That's the record - the all time top flight record. Nobody else really comes close. A little more research reveals the top ten:

Just a couple of caveats - the figures for David Jack and Steve Bloomer might be a little off, I haven't had time to double check. And it's possible that there is another player or two from pre-war years that knocks Vardy out of the top ten - maybe Jack Devey of Villa or George Camsell of Middlesbrough.  I believe the key figures are sound though - for the top three.

And here's the breakdown of Vardy's 100 and Channy's 189:

over-30-2.png

Those 8 goals for Vardy in 2016/17 are obviously the ones after he turned 30 (January 11th), as with Chandler in 1925/26 (November 27th).

I've added that 2023/24 in anticipation - Vardy has signed a 2-year contract. Let's hope that, like that Liverpool goal in 2017, scoring at Wolves is the trigger for another resurgence.

Love posts like this..excellent top post & research.

Look at some of those great goal-scorers of their era...

This is a football fans paradise of debate & respect.

We are now over a quarter of a century into the PL...This is where Vardy records stands out...Considered a new era carrying its own various attributes

& technical standards & needs, without belittling any of those past eras...

He is our Talisman, many a oppo fan, like many of my friends,is a love, hate but respect acknowledgement of him.Proven when he wore the England shirt, the applause he got when his name was called out or he came onto the pitch...

If we had an England manager who could of recognised the strength of playing & utilising both Kane & Vardy

together & keep Sterling on the wing.

The day Vardy ,comes forward and announces his retirement...thousands of Lights will go out in Leicester...

If he wants I still think he can give Leicester 4-6 yrs. Starting some games,or coming on as sub, 60-75 min either way.Stepping back from some fixtures.Hes fit, keeps away from major injuries..25-30 game spread a season, should have him irritating a new generation of oppo fans..

Red Bull incident, was recognition of the passing of Red Bulls owner.

A couple more  European follies would be magic.

So Leicester City players hold the record for:

1) The Premier League - Jamie Vardy (100)

2)  The top-flight (all time) - Arthur Chandler (189)

And guess what - the record holder across all four divisions is Arthur Rowley!

He got 216 goals after his 30th birthday - for Leicester and Shrewsbury Town.

Here's the tremendous threesome:

If there were an awards ceremony we'd be sweeping the board like Ben Hur at The Oscars.

It's not just goal scorers, either. Have a look who's top of this list:

List of men's footballers with the most official appearances - Wikipedia

Anyone got a theory to explain these extraordinary examples of Leicester longevity?
