We weren't the only side beaten at home yesterday (with expected exceptions). And our record over the years certainly isn't the best. I wonder if being away Boxing Day is actually a better bet. Is being at home too cosey? Not enough of a reminder of the day job? Maybe the away travel is enough to jolt players out of their mince pie thoughts.

My thoughts are you’re in denial and trying to rationalise how shite we were.

My genuinely unpopular opinion is I could happily live without boxing days game. I'd rather have played today.

And you would have played better than any of our defenders...

Pain in the arse to get to the game if away. Always prefer to get it at home.

I wasn't thinking of it as a travelling fan, purely the player's attitude.

There might be some logic in this tbf

Trying to find a reason for us being shite, yes perhaps.

We're one of the absolute worst on boxing day in general. I have no idea why it is but we must have as bad a record as anybody.

I can't stand boxing day games. Cba going out the house Christmas/New Year week.

Yes. You have more control of your players.

Doesn’t necessarily mean players were eating and drinking too much on Christmas Day but likely house full of people etc…is not normal preparation for a game. Probably switch off too much.

We win and everyone would have been happy.

As it yes I’m hacked off I had to drag myself down there for that yesterday.

The Liverpool win was the only recent win I can remember.

They were in training on Christmas Day so plenty of time to get the minds in the right place.

Yes, it's a thought. I don't know what a normal training season would be like and how it might differ from a Christmas day one. I wouldn't be surprised if the latter is more jovial, less intense; Santa hats and Spiderman costumes sort of thing - perhaps even contributing to the lack of 'passion' come game time.

You missed out Rodgers dressed as a clown :D

They’re professional footballers and we shouldn’t need to change the circumstances of any game for them to start doing their jobs properly.

And then home for lunch and who knows what’s happening in their houses.

You don’t have to be eating and drinking yourself but you could be distracted by a house full of people doing that until late potentially.

But that applies to every game.

Sure. But Christmas Day isn’t a regular day. It’s much more likely in more players houses on that day than any other.

This will be unpopular and although I don’t like to see that type of performance they are also human too who deserve the time with their families at Christmas. Regardless of whether they earn £££s more..

How were our players circumstances drastically different from the majority in the league? Half of the clubs played at home. Most of them would’ve had a similar Christmas schedule and Boxing Day fixture preparation.

Yesterday was pathetic and there aren’t any excuses.

100% agree. Perhaps we shouldn't be expecting them to play on Boxing Day, as someone else suggested. I dunno. It's such a tradition.

17 games played, 2 wins, 3 draws and 11 defeats...now 12.

It is, according to an article published last week, by far the worst record. We do statistically have more difficult opposition. Liverpool x 4, Man City x 4, Arsenal x 2, Man U x 1, Spurs x 1
