Remember when b & q abbey lane went up?

Yup. "There's only 24 letters in the alphabet because B&Q got burnt down" was the hottest joke at Highcliffe that week.

My daughter's school thoughtfully sent me an email about it with the title 'major fire incident' so of course I initially thought it was the school on fire.

Christ on a bike! I can just imagine seeing that email in my inbox and absolutely crapping it!

We had a good view of the smoke from second floor window at Narborough.

Hopefully no one was hurt.

I'm sure every parent receiving it did. Major Fire Incident IN WIGSTON would've been a lot better at not inducing a panic from parents.

The news report said all staff were safely evacuated, thankfully.

Used to work there in different guises when it was Astron and then RR Donnelly while I was trying to earn some cash pre, during and post-uni. I haven't been there for over a decade but still know a couple of people who have hung around. Glad they're all safe. Some people have been working there for so long it must be devastating for them.

Canteen used to do a banging bacon and hash brown cob back in the day as well.

That is right next to my round, made for an interesting day at work and quite a bit of mail not getting delivered. If the wind had changed direction there would've been even less mail delivered, I'd have packed it in for the day.

Took quite a while from the first smoke I saw to the first siren I heard. At one point it died down (about 1pm?)  and I thought they had it under control, but then the smoke turned thick, black again. Just glad no one was killed.
