I understand the ramifications of selling first team players but at some point we need to get the team on a sound financial footing.   We can’t be involved in points deductions every season. The club will be have to do their job and cultivate young players instead of buying premade.  If a team wants to give us 5 million for winks  and get his salary off the books then I would be all for it

£5 million and 50k p/w off the books is worth way less than a promotion back to the Premier League.

Agree.

Also agree but that's a bit of a false equivalence. You probably can't find a better player for £5mill but you could for the equivalent of £5mill per season. Signing a replacement for £20mill on a 5 year contract equates to £4mill per season and is certainly feasible.

I think I'd want 10mill for the reason outlined in the first part. That would be good all round.

I also dont expect we can or would spend 20mill on 1 player in the championship. Just illustrating the point. 2 10millers would do.

He changed the game when he came on at the weekend and looks a top player at this level
I would hold onto him this season and try to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking
Will only get harder the longer we are down here. Bouncing straight back is usually the best chance
I think there are other areas we could cut, before losing Winks

Agree, It's s also pretty harsh to judge him at premier league level  based on the disaster of last season, under Cooper and Ruud.

How fickle fans are, up until recently he was public enemy number one and getting an absolute slating. Now there’s no way we can afford to lose him!

It's not really about him, it's more the fact that we absolutely cannot afford to play Skipp & Soumare this season if we want to get promoted.

Additionally, do you trust the Director of Football to use the £5m we'd get for Winks on anyone half as good as him?

We have to keep Winks.

He's superior in every aspect for the playmaker role compared to Soumare, Skipp and Choudhury.

It's not even a debate.

I would probaly partner him with Skipp over Choudhury in an energetic box to box role, but it's a tough choice.

He was mismanaged by Cooper and Ruud last year, I couldn't care less where he sleeps either, as long as he's at training on time.

He's our best midfield player by far.

Also does Harry Winks guarantee promotion. Personally I don’t think he does, last time round in my opinion he was no more vital than say Vestergaard was, he is good but he is nowhere near the best or most productive midfielder in the division. he is a very good player in a team set up to play a very specific way and when it clicks he is good but he is also a player who lacks physicality and even in this league there are players and teams who will dominate him and he is largely anonymous. Vardy and KDH were far more important last time round with their goal contributions.

When they didn’t contribute or Mav and Fatawu weren’t creating havoc. There are no more than a couple of games where Winks actually made a match winning contribution.

He is neat and tidy and in certain situations will control the tempo of a game, largely against poor opposition, however for £50k + per week in the championship you really have to be looking at a player who contributes to at least 15 goal involvements  per season.

I for one am still happy to see the back of him.

Hasn't looked bothered for us for a long time, one half doesnt change that. Especially when that half was against a team with no pre season whose first team players were dropping like flies.

I for one have always rated him, and never slagged him off on here.

He was great under Enzo who signed him and whilst not difficult he is IMO currently our best midfield option.

I personally haven't been interested either, under the  dreadful mismanagement of Cooper or Ruud so I don't blame him.

He's one player we should take the risk on leaving for nothing if it means giving promotion a real shot.

We don't have anyone else anywhere near his level in midfield and we won't replace him with anyone else anywhere near his lever either.

I don't care if he sulks all year, he'll have to get on with it.

Good player at this level and can change a game but he don’t want to be here like many others. I’d rather us be weaker and have players that want to play for the badge. Like when we scored the equaliser on Sunday, he just turned around emotionless. Not to mention, one year left in his deal.

I don't like Winks particularly, for lots of reasons, but he is the only CM we have that can actually play football, as opposed to just running around, (or in the case of one particular specimen, not even that)

He'd waste it on another pointless signing for a position we have sufficient cover like Woyo😂

Not in the Championship. He is still ranked as one of the best at this level. If we had better options than Soumare, Skipp, Hamza, then maybe it wouldn't impact us to sell him, but currently, he is our best CM at the club and we are unlikely to get much for him, so why sell.

He wasn’t public enemy with me. He was and is our best creative midfielder. I was one of those who didn’t give a 💩 where he was driving from. It hadn’t been a problem for Enzo and it wasn’t even an issue for Cooper. It’s was RVN and his terrible people management skills that caused the problem. Asking Winks to stay for a day a week was a petty, unnecessary and badly timed flex against a senior pro. It would’ve have no discernible impact as the squad wasn’t good enough to stay up and the manager was even worse.
