Former Player Remembers: Ali Mauchlen (Part One) - Part two added.

Loved Ali. I would only have been about 8, but I am sure I can remember people singing Ali Mauchlen's blue and white army. Also, seeing a banner saying the same thing in the family enclosure seating. Seems unusual to sing that about a player, but the manager was probably Pleaty, so that might explain it! Anyone recall?

I don't remember that, but I do recall that he scored whilst I was going for a piss at Forest away.

He did a player profile feature in the match day programme and to the question "who in the world would you most like to meet?" He said, something along the lines of, the bloke who put 3 stitches in my eyebrow on Humberstone Gate.

Lovely guy.  Not sure if he still does it but used to host the corporate stuff.  Had a great chat and laugh at the manure game when vardy did the eleven.  Ali guaranteed me a photo with the mom....then after the game they brought in this young kid who was voted mom....so deflated thinking who the fek is this guy called kante 🤣🤣🤣

All we ever sang from memory was "Ally, Ally, Ally".

I loved him. Hard as fvck although he was only about 5ft 6"

Always reminds me of Begbie's character from Trainspotting.

Played a bit of golf with Ali

reminds me of an old sgt Major

he is pristine man … immaculately turned out and has a serious air of authority about him, but he is warm and very good company

typical Jock Hardman, not a big man but hard as nails and walks like it

Met him at the gym in Parklands and he was stacked.

Comes across as hard as nails and not to be messed with (as per his playing style) but seemed genuinely pleased that I'd recognised him and was more than a little in awe - regressing back nearly 40 years to my old 15 year old self.

Seems a top man

Also, a fellow player, possibly Walshie said in an interview that the thing that he'd most like to do was to have a walk around Mauchlen's head.  Walshie and Mauchlen in the same team. Not much chance of the team being bullied lol

Hosts the Champions Club Hospitality, and very good at it as well.

And Mick Kennedy for a brief spell, it's a wonder teams were prepared to play us.

Scored in my 1st ever game I went to back at Filbert Street, a 2-1 win against Brighton

My sister dated his son when they were kids

Wonder if he stills works for the British Gas (I believe his wife does)

FM imagine them in last seasons snow flake team. They’d have had a few of them round the neck.

Loved Ali Mauchlen. Shared a beer with him on the Narborough Road years back. Exactly as you might imagine him. Super friendly but that jock menace about him too. Love it.

Exactly. As they say it’s not the size of the dog in the fight……How we could do with him now.

He came at the same time as macalistair and I can remember never been able to make my mind up who was my favourite player. They both did a great job for us.

We were in the same hotel as him the other year away at an away game. Clocked him in the reception area, obviously not from my time but my Dad had a good chat with him. Was great he was so accommodating.

Can imagine Vardy being in that sort of role.

The club has a good reputation of looking after its ex-players.

For those old enough to remember the Pleat years, that bit made me laugh out loud.

After the initial Pleat new manager bounce, I grew to despise him at the time, then came around to liking him again as a pundit after he left us. A complete one off. Eccentric doesn't do Pleat justice
