Apparently he has repeated claims that Harris is mentally retarded. What disgraceful comments on so many levels.

 

Really wish politicians would quit with the personal attacks (goes both ways) and focus on what you are going to do (or will). You know, real policies with actual benefits and outcomes.

 

Let the rest be armchair quarterbacks with their insults but politicians need to be professional at all times and human!

Made me laugh after that first assassination attempt, when the press wondered if Trump would soften his hate rhetoric.  It lasted until halfway through his first subsequent speech( the Republican conference) and he then went back into attack mode.  Like he is capable of change.

He and his supporter base have been telling everyone else exactly who they are for years now - I'm not sure why there are some who do not believe them.

It just goes to show that no one in the presidential race is actually wanting to represent the people- they are all power hungry and will stop at NOTHING to get the ‘ top job’.  even within their own party, they will behave the same way just to secure the nomination- and that’s against people who are supposed to be likeminded.

 

 

I have such a disdain for American politics, it’s hard to even explain..

That disdain is entirely justified.

 

However, as the unfortunate fact is that time on certain problems is short and those two happen to be the only game in town, then looking past the people to the party policy platforms makes the choice obvious, I think.

Call me cynical but I'd expect that is largely the case for the vast majority of people going for the head of any legislature.

I can really only compare the British elections to the U.S elections  as those are the countries I’ve lived in..and I can assure you, the rhetoric used by U.S prospective presidential candidates are on a completely different level…… even those vying for the nomination of the republican or Democratic Party  just absolutely rip  into each other in a way I have never seen in England….. there certainly is no “ right honorable gentleman”..

When I was growing up in Wigston, a trump was another word for a fart. I haven’t heard it used much in that way since I left at the age of 12. Is it just a Leicester expression?

 

Perhaps just one of my dad’s old navy words.

US politics seem to almost totally be about "why you shouldn't vote for them", rather than "why you should vote for us".

Always used trump to mean fart.

my little one calls them trumpets, and as a by product burps are burpets.

I grew up in Leicester and trump was a fairly polite euphemism for fart. I don't think I have ever heard it anywhere else. What about a bit of rhyming slang - Donald Trump = Dump, as in 'I need to go for a Donald Trump!'

Interesting thus far... Vance getting his halftruths and lies in and Walz is staggering a bit.

If you are watching and listening for truth and policy then Walz is doing ok...but Vance is a microscopic Trump, can bullshit well.

I can see trump seeing this and thinking he'll give Harris another shot at a debate.

Seems like it finished about a score draw, Vance the more polished speaker but Walz drew blood in a few places.

Well that was incredibly boring. I was hoping for another prime time American bake-off with both calling each other names, lying, cheating and launching personal attacks. Both were civil to each other and talked about boring things like policy and legislation. To think this was primetime US network TV?!!? Network TV is gone mate honestly, it's a shambles, it was way better in my day, ticket office shambles, it's a joke mate. Better in my day. Game's gone. It's gone mate.

On a serious note, the rumoured 'rift' between Trump and Vance seems pretty apparent now. He seems so far off the Trump message. Can see that relationship ending in disaster before Nov 5. Walz comes across way better against an opponent than he does individually.

I did not see live, so have only watched a few clips.  What did Vance say that was off message? I see that he again refused to acknowledge that Trump lost in 2020, which would have pleased his master.

Yeh maybe I am reading too much into it. He tried to find the middle ground in abortion (which I guess Trump does try to do). He dodged J6 quite well, it's clear he thinks Trump lost, and said he'd work with Kamala if she wins. His branding was very un-Trump, it was a decent debate held by two people who appear to have the country's best interests at heart. I thought they were trying to pitch Vance as Trump-lite, which was not what it was yday.

Maybe wrong but I can imagine NYC property developer of the year 1986 being p1ssed off at Vance today.

Frankly I’d be more surprised if he was watching.

Highly highly doubt he controls his own social media or watches debates. He'll be briefed on it. One month before election date surely he would've been campaigning all day yday.

Can't imagine he watches debates but surely he is doing his own twitter, or is giving exact commands..
