Think the scores so far looking at them reflect the relief (and joy) at the win and the 2nd half determination rather than the standard of the play which in the first half was poor. About a mark higher for each than I gave, but happy to be called a curmudgeon on this occasion 😁, apart from Bilal and Mads who were stand outs along with Patson who was really good and that goal was fabulous.

Mads MOTM

El Khannous, Soumare and 2nd half Ndidi were all decent too.

Patson's best game in a City shirt too. 30 minutes of causing chaos for them.

Bit insulting towards Spartak, that.

I think people are blinded by Daka's inconsistent ability to control a ball.

First half, it has to be Mads, with Vestergaard in general the best of the outfield players.

Second half was a different proposition entirely. Soumaré, Ndidi, Kristiansen, El Khannouss, Daka, Coady all very decent. Incidentally Mads had a poor second half and was spared massive blushes by the ref.

On another day we'd have been 3-1 down. Don't get me wrong i think we played well at times first half, and looked more purposeful in our play and on the ball. But West Ham had several super presentable chances to score from quite close in, so it's not like we delivered a really dominant performance. Mads made 3 or 4 absolutely top drawer saves and a couple of others whistled past the post.

Quite how our xG was so low i have no idea. Vardy, McAteer and Ndidi had gilt edged chances aside from the goal, and but for Buonanotte being a foot offside we would have had a 4th.

Play wise - i think the fluidity of Buonanotte, El Khannous and McAteer last night was strong - their confidence will grow. Mavididi needs to take his lead from them and we will have 4 players that can really challenge each other to play behind the striker.

Ndidi and Soumare have more physicality than any other CDM partnership we have and can progress the ball better. My only worry being that they really can't dictate the tempo of a game, and are prone to more **** ups in possession than is healthy for deep lying midfielders - so we may need something in January to improve us there. For now though. They seem to work in RVN's more pressing led system.

I had real worries about Coady and Vest yesterday, but in a tight 4 with two quicker CDM's in front of them it was a good defensive performance. I think Okoli could play in that set up aswell, and maybe in the right games Faes could move out right, which takes him away from the goal aswell which is nice.

Vardy appears reborn in the key games. If he stays fit i can see him getting 15 goals this year.

It's good to have Daka back for December, but if he's the longer term solution post Jan then we are in a bit of trouble.

Loved RVN anticipating the flow of the game, subs on 58 and 68 rather than 65 and 78. It just hit differently and provokes the game rather than reacts to it.

Hermansen is, in my opinion, already the best goalie in the world. He comes for the ball, he is an unbelievable shot stopper and can play the ball short and long aswell as a midfielder. I hope we get £80m for him when he goes.

Buonanotte, El Khannous been played together was great idea, both played well, Coady and Vestergaard partnership seem to go well, Hermansen made some good saves again, Daka at the end was a major plus.

Do not want to be too negative after a great (but maybe not the most deserved) win, so just want to claim Mads as my MotM. He was outstanding first half and that save from a deflection 2nd half was unreal. He must be our next big sale; he is becoming elite.

No that's a fair point.

Best home game in a City shirt. Lively as I've seen him and the way he nicked the ball round the defender for his goal was Vardy-esque.

Nice post!

Re: Daka, based on the performance on Tuesday, that's a bit harsh. If he plays like that, then he'll be a very able deputy. His inconsistency is his biggest weakness, but if can be a threat on the counter, then he can become a real asset.

Re: Hermansen, I think that's a bit blue-tinted there... He needs to seriously bulk up and have better upper body strength. The chaos that ensued from him not catching the ball at the end of the first half and the embarrassing punch into his own goal are evidence of this. He's good with the ball and has been great at stopping shots this season, but we've also seen a few areas that need work (i.e. getting caught in no man's land against Wood) - especially if he's to be branded "best in the world".

wow that's harsh. i don't think any goalie has performed better than him in the premier league this year. the wood goal was 40% Okolis fault (leaving it to Faes), 50% Faes' fault for staring open mouthed at the ball for 10 seconds in stead of going toward it and maybe 10% Hermansen's for trusting that his two centre halves weren't terrible. Not a mistake he will be making again! I was down near the front on Tuesday. Hermansen is not small for a goalie so i don't think he needs to bulk up much, but will naturally as he gets older.

I stand by the assessment. I don't see a better goalie in the prem and very arguably anywhere in the top 5 leagues.

Good debate to be having though, and kudos to the management for signing him.

Mcateer was really poor in fairness. Any move invariably broke down when it got to him. Weak, easily pushed off the ball, never takes a man on, poor defensively, seems way out of his depth.

Depends how you look at it.

He's performing well, for sure, but he's also in the spotlight a lot.

And just because he is performing well, it's a bold claim to say he's "the best". E.g. Many of the top keepers don't get to showcase their shot-stopping that much because their teams don't allow as many (good) shots as our team does.

But I don't watch near enough football to be able to judge who's the best out there. I hope Hermansen becomes as good as his potential promises - I'm a supporter of both teams he plays for after all.

Even a complete duffer like me, if on the pitch for 90 minutes is about to do something right eventually or occasionally! His overall play for 90 minutes was very poor imo and he stood out like a sore thumb. You can't dine out on a couple of good moves.

Well he has gotten and will get very good experience this season, as part of his development.

30 shots by West Ham just in one game.

If he can stay mentally strong, he will be an awesome world class goalie.
