Wouldn't it be wise for us to back down on any appeal that maybe going on, take the points deduction this season rather than potentially next?

I don’t know the ins and outs but I think we’d get one next season in the champ anyway regardless of what happens this season.

There is no appeal going on at the moment. Some suggestion of arbitration but that can't lead to a points deduction. The Premier League were banged to rights by the Independant Commission.

Bristol City's  Approach to transfer and their fans

Prior to deadline day getting underway, The Robins released a statement, in which they confirmed their plan.

The most important part of their statement read: “As we enter February, we would like to share our approach to the window during the last month.

“We approached the summer transfer window with a plan to bring in four players with an expectation there would be three departures. During that period, we ended up bringing in seven new players and there were two departures.

“This meant that we began the season with a larger squad than we would ideally operate with and, consequently, there have been fewer opportunities for home grown players than there might have been otherwise.

“In addition, following his purchase and subsequent loan back to Derby County last January, we also welcomed Max Bird to join up with the first team squad for the first time in the summer.

“After making a real push to sign Scott Twine and Luke McNally late in the summer – decisions we are pleased we made – alongside a couple of expected departures not occurring, we entered January considerably behind on our season budget.

“Although January is a time for the media to get excited, it isn’t the best time to do business. Whilst it is natural for fans to want additions, the most important thing for us coming into January was to keep the core of the squad together. This gives the group of players the chance to continue their progression and provides an opportunity to build on the solid platform created during the first two-thirds of the season.

“We have now managed to close the gap in our budget whilst minimising the impact on our first team.”

We're not appealing anything.

I don't know what Bristol City fans feel, but to me this is a refreshing piece of transparency from their club which our board would do well to emulate. It would provide clarity and help build bridges with our fan fanbase.

They see it as lovely comms but a cynical ploy to cover up how much they ****ed up the summer transfer window (again), linked to having a massively under qualified DoF and a disinterested owner, with his Nepo Baby son in a position of too much influence within the club.

Oh and how they have managed to exit the Jan window weaker squad wise than when they went into it.

Of course the "happy clappers" are lapping it up.

Sounds quite familiar....except for the comms bit.

Saw people genuinely against breaking PSR when it was suggested at the start of the window...my question is WHY?

We've got weaker in consecutive Jan windows to apparently comply and look where it's got us? It'll be very interesting if those against breaking PSR still feel the same by the end of tonight.

And Forest broke the rules to stay up and now look at them...

What punishment? We won our case vs the PL.

Did you not see ours:

As we enter February, we would like to share our approach to the window during the last month.

“We approached the summer transfer window with a plan to bring in top players with an expectation that we would sell our best player. During that period, we ended up bringing in seven new players over the age of 30 and a manager who would only work with a player if they were alive when queen played live at wembley.”

“This meant that we began the season with a larger squad than we would ideally operate with and, consequently, there have been fewer opportunities for good players than there might have been otherwise.

“After making a real push to sign Jordan Ayew and oliver Skipp late in the summer – decisions we are pleased we made – alongside a couple of expected departures not occurring, we entered January considerably behind on our season budget.

“Although January is a time for the media to get excited, it isn’t the best time to do business. For some reason clubs won’t accept loans with obligations if we survive and players won’t accept a wage that drops 75% if we finish in the relegation zone. Whilst it is natural for fans to want additions, the most important thing for us coming into January was to keep edouard at the club, he’s been working on his swimming badges and is really close to holding his breathe underwater for 2 minutes. Thisgives the group of players the chance to continue theirprogression and provides an opportunity to build on the solid platform created during the first two-thirds of the season.

“We have now managed to close the gap in our budget whilst minimising the impact on our first team.”

Absolutely refreshing from KPFC :appl:

We won our case vs the PL. That's a matter of fact, not opinion. They may be trying to appeal it, but their chances of succeeding in that appeal are approximately zero.

It has been speculated in some quarters that the EFL may try to go after us for 2020-23, but it's far from clear that they will be able to do so. At the very least I would expect us to mount a very robust legal defence against any attempt by the EFL to charge us for that period.

All this fatalistic nonsense about how either the PL or EFL are going to 'get us' eventually is just daft doom-mongering based on a very poor understanding of the actual situation.

We’ve been one step ahead (for once) at each turn. I’d imagine us being in mediation will suddenly yield an agreed points deduction as soon as we are nailed on relegated. Hopefully with it taking away the EFL’s chance of any claim in the process.

It would be quite generous of the PL to agree to do that if we were already down. If it was clear that an additional points deduction would make no difference as we were down anyway, wouldn't they prefer to let the EFL take a swing at us? Unless of course they knew the EFL wouldn't be able to act against us and just wanted us to accept a deduction as token face-saving exercise for the PL...

You think so .... time will tell ... but our secretive financial situation speaks for itself.... and this is reflected in the activity or lack of it in the transfer market .... as the saying goes " there is no smoke without fire " ...  if all was well surely we would be looking at purchases to play our way out of the relegation places .... it all speaks for its self really ... I don't have to doom monger the club itself are painting that picture and don't fully understand the fans feelings for the club

The lack of transfer activity this window will be related to avoiding a breach for the current period, which ends in June. Despite our previous legal victories, I assume the club doesn't want to pick another fight if it can be avoided. It seems like we're prepared to accept relegation as the price for complying, which I agree does suggest the club fears we may find ourselves in deep trouble if we breach for this year.

I know just interested what you mean by it.

Simply for me the club, its transfer, contract and wages polices ... the club has painted itself into a corner ... and has financially restricted itself into doing anything that will change our current situation in the transfer market .... so if we are to face any points penalty... the sooner the better ... that way the club can plan and move forward

Sounds like they're as much a basket case as we are and if so, I can understand their fans taking a cynical view of the club statement. However, we can all read between the lines and at least they've come out and said something, rather than hide behind a cloak of secrecy.

It wouldn't have jeopardised the club in any way to say we weren't bringing anyone in, and would at least have shown a willingness to engage with the fans, as well as putting us all out of our misery!
