He’s very clearly got something about him. Considering he’s barely played AND had to come back from a horrific injury he moves so well.

Fingers crossed for him!

Stoke v Cardiff FA Cup

Subbed on at 80 mins, + 9 minutes injury time + 30 minutes extra time

RW for 34 mins, LW for last 15.

Off the ball movement seemed great, he was always finding space or dragging a defender wide. Weak in the air, most defenders were taller than him and he struggled to win headers.

On the Right Wing he seemed to struggle to dribble past defenders and often had to pull the ball back, but didn't lose possession often. On the Left Wing he was a lot more successful in beating his man, worked the ball into the box a few times, and got a shot on target, unfortunately right into the keeper's arms. He didn't seem to show much creativity on the ball, but showed a good work rate when taking on defenders.

I don't know if he was more confident on the left, he got used to the pace of the game by the time he switched, or if he was against slower defenders, or a combination of the above. He was a big threat in the last 15 minutes.

Wasn't too impressed with his defensive movements and pressing, but that could be due to manager instructions to stay forward when possible. He did not get involved in defending set pieces either, likely due to his height.

The score stayed 3-3 for the entire time he was on the pitch.

I wouldn't say that he had an impact on the game, but he certainly wasn't invisible either.

Cardiff fans are raving about him

They should. For a young player, probably still a bit nervous, in his first appearance for his club, at a critical moment in their cup run, he did great.

I tried to be objective, covering both positive and negative as I saw it. I'm not trying to be a downer.

He's got plenty of room to improve, and if that's his floor, I look forward to seeing where his ceiling is.

Oh no no I agree with your assessment! Didn’t mean to come across blunt or anything haha.

Nope, just very bored lol

Hahahaaa impressive.

He definitely looked far more dangerous at LW, which has always been his best position in my opinion. I know he's considered a #10 but he gets more space out wide and cutting in. I think if he can develop in to being a very good Championship level left winger then in time he might move centrally but a promising debut from him!

I'll be watching their games when I can, probably opt for that over ours at the min an'all 😂😂😂

Will Alves made his Cardiff City debut in today's FA Cup Fourth Round match against Stoke City, which ended in a 3-3 draw after extra time. He was substituted in at the 82nd minute, replacing Anwar El Ghazi.

During extra time, Alves had a notable opportunity to score. He took on the Stoke defenders inside the penalty area, but his shot went wide after a deflection.

The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Cardiff City emerged victorious 4-2, advancing to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Overall, Alves' performance was promising, showcasing his potential in a high-stakes match.

I can’t imagine any other club who have Reid, Ayew and McAteer as their options on the wing would loan out Alves without even giving him a chance

A Championship loan is the right move for Alves. He’s been overhyped so far on here. We need to see what he’s capable of at a lower level. I hope he get’s enough minutes at Cardiff.
Monga seems potentially on a different level, so probably will get his chance first if we can keep hold of him.

Alves got his first team debut for us at 16. He was our last Academy generation's Monga/Evans but he had a bad injury that set him back.

It's not clear who has the higher ceiling between the two if Alves gets his career back on track.

Monga seems to be attracting interest from the big clubs around Europe. Alves didn't have that level of hype at 15.
