you just know the game will be replayed

They have got to consider that Ipswich were down to 10 and losing the game… surely just giving the match to Blackburn is the only right call

Surely then with them being down to 10 Blackburn get the 3 points at rightly so.

youd certainly hope so, as you both said Blackburn were winning, 10 mins left, ipswich down to 10 men too

Ipswich were down to 10 men and had been playing the whole second half a man down so would have been more tired. The only fair way to do this is award Blackburn the match.

I read somewhere that after about 75 mins, the score can stand

This is true yeah. Once had a ref intentionally wait until 75th minute to stop a game in atrocious weather when I was coaching, with the intention that the result could stand.

We don't even have common sense rules for simple things like suspended/abandoned football games. It doesn't matter if it's the first minute or the 90th minute. The rule should be a continuation of the game under the same conditions (red cards etc) the next day. So the game must continue tomorrow for the remainder of time.

But noooo. Why do that? Make everyone suffer more because we're elitists and we make the most bizarre rules for the sheep to follow.

Rant over.

Not only that, but surely with a red card meaning a suspension, how does that work if the result is in limbo?

If the game and goals don't count, neither should the cards IMO. Fair or not.

Its early days, but I always felt the fawning with Southampton and Ipswich was over the top.

Who are all the Championship pundits going to masturbate over if neither of these find some form?

Wrexham.

I dunno, is there precedence?  If you headbutted a guy and got sent off for violent conduct it's not going to be dismissed if the game is abandoned. You still nutted someone.

What happens with the Greaves red card?

Good question, the result should stand imo, no need to over complicate it. Blackburn were a goal and man up… the logical decision is let it stand and not after worry about anything else

Nope. The only fair way to do it is to continue the game tomorrow afternoon under closed doors (unless they have a system to let fans in again which I doubt they do). Play the remaining minutes tomorrow. Any other future day will cause genuine disruption as players get injured etc and the league will be in jeopardy.

You CAN'T replicate the same conditions. Ipswich played with a man down for half an hour, their players are going to be more tired as a result of having to pick up the slack. How do you replicate that?

It’s why the logical decision is to let the result stand. It’s the fairest decision too. Had it been 0-0 and Ipswich a man down, then yes this would have been a tough call. With Blackburn winning though, I think it makes it far easier to just give the points to Blackburn

In what world is that fair? Your taking away Blackburns advantage of being fresher (they had already played against 10 men for half an hour) AND their home advantage by removing the crowd?

Ofc you can't replicate the exact same conditions regarding fitness, tiredness etc but you need at least to replicate the standard match conditions as they occurred in 78 or so minutes. I can't understand your objection. Do you want also some people around the pitch holding hoses to replicate rain?

Did you actually read my post? This is the minimum alternative to the other one saying the game should be played fully on a later date.

I wouldn’t have any objections, with them restarting from 80 mins played.. with Ipswich a man down. The only objection I have is to allow Ipswich to replay the match with 11 men… it would be the most unfair call. The best call, just give the result to Blackburn

But a rule for that doesn't exist, so it's not an option.
