Why would we, he hasn’t  got premier league experience

Why would he sign a 5 year deal aged 20? He will want to be free to move to bigger club in his early 20's, not be tied to us. Or have a lever to negotiate a much better deal in the unlikely event he wants to stay.

Long contracts are only advantageous to established pros, not young players (unless they don't back themselves).

Will serve us right for how we've handled his development.

Completly agree, another a player who has been outrageously mismanaged by our shitty club. If I were him, I’d be pissed off I have already got 30 premier league caps under my belt.

Truly disgusting club 🤢

He'd only need to look at KDH to see it isn't a great idea, and KDH had played Premier League and European football before while Nelson hasn't yet. Another season with us suits us and the player; we get a decent season out of him and his value increases while he can negotiate a better transfer deal.

New contract needed, and then make him first choice CB next summer.

I understand why no young player wants to tie themselves down here though, we're pretty poor at youth development and generally treat them like crap.

You've kind of proved yourself wrong with this point, they've collected a massive pool because people are still willing to go there

Players have to think they are better than others so they feel they can get into the first team as a regular

Why do people think KDH would want to come back?

certainly not saying he will, just speculating what weird shit Chelsea will try to pull when signing players

Contracted until 2027. Agent play for a long term contract me thinks.

Why would you want a long term contract at such a badly run club with currently poor youth development where they have to force loan moves

Can’t see us capable of getting a decent fee for him. Only silver lining is he’s injury prone despite being a really good prospect.

Injury prone???

Rudkin cracking his knuckles as he pulls a masterclass by selling poor trainer and 0 PL experienced Ben Nelson for 30mil and buy PL experienced and leader Tyrone Mings for £25mil.

A profit and and upgrade! Similar to selling KDH and buying Skipp.

Poor trainer?????

Would fully expect us to throw him into the mix for next season after his spell at Oxford but we all know Top would be licking his lips if a decent bid comes in for him.

One of our ex coaches went on a podcast recently defending Rudkin and saying the fans were overreacting about the academy players not playing as they weren't as good as we thought, going on to say that Nelson was a poor trainer.

It was a good insight into the mentality of the club at the moment.

He will expect to be a first choice in the Championship next season and make a decision on what to do at the end. Maresca does like him but he won't be going to Chelsea.

If he does play as a 1st choice centre back I would suspect LCFC will be renegotiating during the season maybe due to contractual triggers or because they want to keep him.

Will he want to stay at LCFC??? I think they need to sort themselves out and also show him he has a good future there.

He isn't stupid and whilst money is part of the picture at this stage he will be looking to play to develop himself further before moving up the wage structures.

Hahahaha what a load of crap. Everyone is aware of Branstons words but it was absolute shit.

The argument that he won’t get game time at Chelsea is kind of irrelevant. They invest heavily in players and immediately farm them out to develop and either become assets or quickly sell them on and recoup. He might well spend the next two seasons on loan before he’s in contention for a starting berth there. A great move for the player and Chelsea. Depending on the fee, a poor one for us.

It is kind of relevant though isn't it? He's not played much league football and had a good injury lay off.

He's 20/21 now and needs to play week n week out at a good level, only Stratsborg would be comparable to playing for Leicester.

He's not starting for Chelsea anytime soon and probably not ready either ability wise.

I'd be a terrible move career wise at this stage and only lining his pockets is the benefit.

He signed his last deal when he was 18/19 on probably no more than £20,000. By pushing this story may get him a new contract on far greater terms.

Poor youth development? Give your head a wobble. How many times have we promoted from our academy over the past 10/15 years and they have used us as a springboard to further progress their careers to play in Europe and win titles, including the champions league. Yes, more recently the club has been run poorly, but I can't fault the poor youth development.

We need a no sale policy to Chelsea for a few years.

But they keep paying for players which is keeping us going

I get your point about getting a better contract but I did say currently in terms of youth development... Players are having to push for loans, no loans manager, even when huth was having jollies watching games. Also they don't see a pathway to first team football as they aren't given a chance... Look at the last couple of seasons.

The loans they got for this season were because they pushed for them hence going on the last day of the window. We can all see what a mess the club is at the moment, why would you want to be part of that when you could play Prem football either next season or the following season after another season playing in the Championship.

He won't need to chase a new contract as if he plays regularly this season, triggers in his contract will likely force the club to renegotiate or they will want to renegotiate. As I said elsewhere, money is part of it but playing at thus point is probably more important. If he is going to the top the moneexpandedy will come
