Worries me more than monga that he will go, clearly ready to be a starting cb in our league next season where as monga we dont know despite his obvious ability if he will contribute goals/assists. Nelson is keep at all costs for me.

He’s just had a taste of first team football with Oxford and was warmly received by their fans and it did him the world of good. I’d be very surprised if he wants to go anywhere to sit on the bench and be a fringe player.

my concern is that one of the promoted teams puts an offer in for him.

It's not about what he wants. Barnes and Dewsbury Hall didn't want to leave but the club convinced them to for financial reasons

Sky Sports: Leicester City player not a Chelsea target – Three others named instead
By Simon Phillips - 18th May 2025, 07:00am

Sky Sports have thrown shade over a transfer rumour this week linking Chelsea to a Leicester City defender who has been on loan with Oxford United this season.

They say that Ben Nelson is not a Chelsea target. Chelsea will sign a centre back this summer, but the 21-year-old is not currently under consideration.

Three players named on shortlist instead

According to the same report,

Chelsea’s centre back shortlist includes players such as Jorrel Hato, Marc Guehi and Jarrad Branthwaite.

These are the kind of players Chelsea will be hoping to sign in the summer, but in the meantime, their focus is on the final games of the season – and not transfers, says Sky Sports.

Hopefully true.

I still don’t think it will be Chelsea but now the rumours have started, I suspect we will lose him. Perhaps Bournemouth to replace Huijsen or Burnley to replace Egan-Riley.

Such is our place in the food chain now…

No one will buy Nelson as a first choice PL CB

he’s an investment for the future.  needs to prove himself at the top level and we know that CB is a position where experience is vital re development.

ideally he needs a full championship season in that respect.  So even if we had to sell him for psr reasons, I’d say there’s a good chance we could loan him back for the campaign.  In that regard would be better for him to go to a rich six type club.  A Fulham or Bournemouth would be tempted to keep him around their first team squad.

Theres plenty of other players we can move on if we need money that bad, Kirstensen, Soumare, Faes, Winks, Ndidi, Mads

Like the other guy said we should be building a team round players like Nelson with a view to the future

I didn’t say he wouldn’t leave, but if he did he would have plenty of suitors and he would naturally choose a place he gets first team football, not sit on Chelsea’s bench

Bournemouth had Huijsen in their starting 11 at aged 19 with little first team experience (albeit a few games in Serie A rather than the Championship).

Clearly he’s a different level for his age having gone to RM for £50mill but it does show they will chuck them in at that age. It only seems to be us that are generally adverse to trusting players in a PL starting 11 until they are about 24!

If doesn't matter who's money we take as long as they over pay.

Harwood-Bellis’ experience would suggest a relegation scrap isn’t the way forward for a young centre back.

Can't see it personally.

Think Chelsea will be looking at someone a bit more proven & experienced for what they will have to pay.

But...it is Chelsea & footballs ran by the rich.

The only truth I could see in it is if they're planning to buy him to loan him out for a season to develop elsewhere. They know they'd get a decent price now and that they'd unlikely lose out on him

Hoping he stays though and starts week in week out

Please no I'm really looking forward to seeing him play for us next season,if we are going to sell,it has to be stupid money, I'm talking 50 mill plus add ons

Nelson isn't good enough to start in the PL, so no team will be buying him to start - more of a squad/development option. He's better off staying here and playing 40 games next season, for both us and him. Whether he will see the same, alongside his agent and LCFC remains to be seen.

If we sell someone like Nelson, someone that his loan club manager has tipped to play for England, someone that could grow into a very valuable player and asset, now, at the very start of his career when he is at his least valuable and just give away all of that potential... I shall be..... Well......I shall be quite cross!

Rightly so . You might even feel like writing a strongly worded letter expressing your displeasure
