Blimey, the guy that kept coins in one of these...

...a giant Coca Cola bottle to fund Jihad.

When I was at uni in the 90s Al Mujahiroun were on campus distributing anti semitic, homophobic and misogynistic literature. I informed the students union and I shit you not, they took my name and course, subsequently reporting me to faculty for racism.

Haha the very same. Pretty sure the coke bottles get a mention in the book. If memory serves, Ronson might have actually literally driven him to buy them.

Would Sanchez win an election held today ?  Not according to current polling

just cos we may like a politician doesn’t make them popular in their own country

gonna be an interesting day tomorrow - will wait for the policy detail but I would be amazed if no 10 don’t make a pigs ear of the settlement trading sanctions,

Spain is an interesting one, the Iberian peninsula is affected by completely different issues than pretty much the rest of europe. So like others have said it would be interesting. He’s also had power for so long that voter fatigue might be a thing.

All I know is that Merz is the worst, beyond incompetent and will hopefully be out on his ear before the end of the year for the safety and sanity of Europe.

A charitable organisation designed to save lives at sea shouldn't be saving lives at sea?

Look you can have whatever view you want on the small boats issue but the RNLI save lives whoever those lives are. If people are struggling at sea they're going to go and God bless them for it.

The system is designed for them to struggle at sea somewhere near the middle of the channel.

This isn't a secret, so it ought to be border force doing the rescuing imo.

The end result is the same except that it is volunteer lifeboat folks doing the work that the government ought to be doing.

the policy announcement (and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Canada and France follow this week) is timed.  I can’t only think that it’s trying to say to the isr electorate that supporting BN and his coalition parties end October is a route to international isolation. I know a lot of people there and there is not a lot of love for the govt. But if they feel vulnerable then they will be more likely to drift towards the men who claim to offer protection rather than those who can be painted as being more lax on security.  Giving the administration the gift of ‘they all hate us, we must stick together’  message is a high risk strategy.  Leaving this policy announcement until early November when the election is finished would make no discernible difference.  if BN now wins from a position where he currently sits just behind then fingers could be pointed at Miliband and burnham. I actually think that trump would privately welcome a change in isr govt.

the more I think about the more I am annoyed that burnham is taking this risk with affecting the upcoming vote there. I wonder if we’ll see the opposition making promises about settler expansion/legality that they weren’t previously doing in order to try and take some wind out of BN’s response.

Yeah, astute observations there.

It does however stick as both rather absurd and abhorrent that such realpolitik chicanery needs to be considered in the first instance when the entirely innocent bodies continue to pile up over there.

This is fine in principle and practice up until the point a government (at the behest of its voting electorate or not) at some point decides that it won't fulfil those duties anymore.

possibly the primary reason for the timing  ??

Think it’s more because there’s been some kind of diplomatic get together. 12 countries have signed an agreement. But yes it will help him a lot.

Ben-Gvir and Smotrich making noise about the Falklands being "occupied" and action needing to be taken now.

The hypocrisy is as palpable as those two are loathsome.

My Mrs works for the RNLI, they have been told to exercise caution wearing branded uniform in public due to the abuse staff and crew have been receiving. Absolutely sickening really.

They have also told people to lock social media as there has been an increase of online abuse and attempts to find volunteer addresses.

I would get banned from this site if I wrote the action that I would take against Ben Gvir.

Well this is not a new position from Israel in regard to Argentina and the Falklands. Very strange how many English conservatives think they're our allies.

The more you read, the more you pray for a world where Rabin wasn’t murdered (by BN).

Not really that strange when a lot of the aforementioned English conservatives would likely have orange mouths after five minutes with Donald Trump and because they back his particular brand of nationalist lunacy, they have to back Israel too.

It is strange that they seem to think either can be relied upon to actually help the UK in time of need at the present time, though.

That was a genuine inflection point in history, yes. So much could have been different.

But the ethnic cleansers couldn't have that, could they?
