I think you’re spot on to be honest.

I think it’s a “self imposed” embargo. We are so desperate not to get a deduction so we are essentially just stripping out assets, and recouping as much money as we can. I agree with you, we won’t sign anyone. The board are going to gamble on a stab at the play offs and then go from there. Such is the delusion at the board level.

What is right though? Do you just spend the money like some are, and take the deduction and just hope you accumulate enough points to go up, or do you sell all of your key assets, and essentially reset the club… but it’s likely we still can’t spend a great deal anyway because all we are doing is clawing back the deficit.

The article does not suggest the embargo is self-imposed. It clearly states that it’s a formal sanction. For example:

“The Foxes were deemed to have fallen foul of profit and sustainability rules, which prompted the punitive measures.”

and

“The plan will have to be approved by the EFL who have clamped down hard on Leicester for past offences - making it difficult for them to trade now.”

This is all very odd. It implies we’ve been found guilty and sanctioned for past breaches, which, if true, has not been reported anywhere and is not even mentioned on the EFL website. Really weird.

Perhaps we have agreed something in principle with the EFL, that if adhered to, will mean we avoid a points deduction.

Having said that it doesn’t mean we can’t bring players in it just means we have to seek extra ratification from the EFL to get the incomings rubber stamped

I dislike The Sun as much as anyone, but I remember they were first to report we were in line for a £90m+ annual loss circa January 2022 (?) and all the comments were the same on here then. E.g., "journos making stuff up", "how would The Sun know?" etc.

I have a feeling there's some truth in it.

We haven’t been placed on an Embargo. That much is clear because it would be plastered all over the media.

But I do think we’re trying to prove to the powers that be, that we’re doing all we can to remedy the situation…… another classic example of our bumbling board room.

That would make more sense but it’s not what the article says. It explicitly says that it’s an EFL-imposed embargo and is a punishment for past offences. But as you say, if that was the case it would have been widely reported.

Somebody challenged Alan Nixon on twitter about the story and he appeared to double down, but in a slightly vague and offhand way:

The EFL having studied the disasterous performance of Dufkin and the Recruitment Team in the 'Cooper' window, they basically feel very terribley sorry for all Foxestalk Members. Thus a Transfer ban willl give us all some respite.  I personally thank them.

Screams to me of a reporter asked to write a story on a subject they know nothing about and just flesh it out with waffle.  Nobody cares enough to fact check a story about us.

Perhaps this is the tactic for engagement. With the top Prem clubs engagement drives itself. With anyone else post misinformation that not enough people know or care about for it to matter but intrigues just enough to get those clicks...

What would farewell mean in this instance?

I think it means Nixon blocked the account that questioned the story. He tends to do that whenever anybody questions him.

Something must be going on, the squad is so obviously light in a few key areas and theres barely even a whisper of a rumour and Marti has pretty much shut all talk of signing people down.

Like most have said, it cant be an official one as it would need to be announced and on the EFL website and is perhaps self imposed or an attempt to lessen the punishment from last year's breach?

If true I would argue that dismantling squad to the point of relying on Ayew/Daka and the kids the fire us up the league quite simply wont happen and you would be better off just spending the money and taking the punishment. But as ever with the club thr fans are always the last to know.

We don't think Nixon has just gotten Mitchell Hall to write it all then and added his name to it?

Presumably he would only put his name to something he believes is true.

Or he's got a quota on the number of stories he's got to get out, he's too busy to bother with it and hands it over to his freelance pal.

If we were under embargo you'd see it mentioned on every transfer out rumour, because we'd be less inclined to sell if we can’t bring in, and that adds a few lines of context to every story.

Maybe he does know something. Seems odd he's the only one though.

If we have a transfer embargo would we have been allowed to sign begovic?

We wouldnt. And im pretty sure we’d of been trying to sign free agents if they wont let us pay a transfer/loan fee

I assume it’s a business plan. The EFL can enforce that whenever they suspect a club might breach (again).

I highly doubt it’s a self imposed embargo to avoid a points deduction, that’s not how the system works. We breached for 23/24 and probably have 24/25, but the only people that can determine the punishment is an independent committee.

Begovic was on a free. The article says that “Leicester are not allowed to spend under their current restrictions”. So there’s no contradiction there.

You may be right but why would the EFL and the club try to keep it a secret if we were under a business plan? The EFL would presumably like to show that they’re taking a tough line and the club would presumably want the fans to know why we’re not signing anybody. So why has neither announced it?

I agree. I’m sure it would be reported if we  were under a business plan. I think the lack of signings is just a case of us making sure there are no more points deductions. We are resetting with a lot of youngsters being given a chance which is not necessarily a bad thing but we will have to accept that it is going to take time.
