Huddersfield Town are interested in signing versatile Leicester City attacking midfielder Will Alves on loan ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

Despite a 3-1 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday, the Terriers have enjoyed a positive start to life under Lee Grant, as they sit sixth in League One, and they have knocked Leicester and Sunderland out of the League Cup.

Grant has overseen major changes at Huddersfield in the summer, with a high turnover of players, but it appears they are still in the market for reinforcements.

Huddersfield Town enter talks to sign Leicester City’s Will Alves
FLW has been told that Alves is on the Terriers’ radar, with the two clubs discussing a potential loan deal for the attacking midfielder, who has also played out wide for City and Cardiff during last season's loan spell.

The 20-year-old is highly-rated by the Foxes after coming through the ranks of the Midlands outfit, but he has struggled to get near Marti Cifuentes’ starting 11 so far this season, with teenager Louis Page ahead of him in the pecking order right now.

So far, Alves’ only minutes of the campaign have come against Huddersfield, but he was replaced at half-time as the third tier outfit went on to win on penalties after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes.

If this move does materialise, it will be Alves’ second spell away from Leicester, after spending the second half of the previous season with Cardiff City.

Whilst it ultimately ended up in disappointment as the Welsh side were relegated, the youngster did make some positive contributions to the team, as he registered one goal and three assists in 14 appearances.

Alves hasn’t kicked on since returning to Leicester though, and it was telling that he once again failed to make the matchday squad as Cifuentes’ men beat Birmingham City on Friday night.

A loan move may be seen as ideal for his development, and dropping to League One should ensure that Alves gets the regular game time that his parent club will want over the coming months.

If Huddersfield can finalise a move for the England youth international, he will provide Grant with a versatile attacking option, as Alves is capable of playing as a traditional number 10, or down either flank, and he will be tasked with bringing more creativity to the team.

Would be a shame as I was hoping this season would have been his chance to get into the squad - clearly a bit down the pecking order for Martí though

I would've preferred it was a Championship loan as well as he was decent for a proper crap Cardiff side last season

At least he will be fighting at the top of league one

Still has plenty of time to develop for us as well, KDH still hadn't been out on loan or even made a senior appearance at Alves's age

When you add an ACL injury & recovery into the mix there’s still plenty of time for him.

Like you say KDH was a late bloomer

Rather have him coming off the bench for us than Silko Thomas if im being honest.

I reckon Silks goes on loan too tbh.

I also think in terms of where we might be next season, having him go to a team that is fighting for promotion and playing more expansive football is a better fit than having him grind out points at the bottom of the division.

If it's a toss up with barely playing here (should be an impact player most games from our bench either LW, RW or #10) or getting 30+ games on loan at a good League One team then get him on loan.

It’s too early to write off Alves but on face value, Monga and potentially Silko have leapfrogged him in the pecking order.

All a game of “what if’s” but I wonder what Alves career would have been if he didn’t suffer that horror tackle.

It would be a good move for him if he gets regular game time, I don't see him playing much at Leicester this season.

Astonishing Silko is ahead of him. Didn't score a single goal on loan in League One last season whilst Alves output at Cardiff in the Championship wasn't too bad at all.

Yes, but if he can have a season on loan at league 1 and player every week and really produce it will do him the world of good.

Need the KDH and Barnes route.

I’m disappointed with how his career has gone. Yes I know the serious injury, but his only game this season he got hooked against league 1 opposition. Can’t judge  him on just one half, of course, but i’ll disappointed if he goes to league 1 this year instead of a loan in the championship.

It might be too simplistic but I think Thomas’ athleticism is what has given him the nod over Alves?

Season loan playing every game (hopefully) for Huddersfield doesn’t sound bad at all. If he gets goals and assists that’ll give him some serious momentum to getting into our side next season.

I wonder if Silko being on the bench getting minutes is similar to how Enzo used Marcal at the start of the season?

If we get promoted he's still going to struggle for gametime even if he has a good loan in league one.

Would just need to do what both Barnes and KDH did

Good loan in league one and then a good loan in the Championship
