Marti Cifuentes will take us back to the premier league

100%

When we start at the bottom of the Scottish football league and work our way up.

That’s a very hot take, given Rodgers humiliated us at Forest away 11 months before that in the FA Cup.

And Rodgers humiliated us in Warsaw 5 months prior to the Forest FA Cup debacle too.  It was around this time our domestic football performances dropped off a cliff too (even though we beat United 4-2 ish around then)

Yes. It’s why the thread is called hot takes! I do think he’d have kept us up. For me, Dean Smith was a joke and it was way too late for somebody to make a difference anyway, please don’t be confused by my take on it - I was no Rogers fan before he went but thought he was best place to keep us up by the time the situation got to what it did.

I don't think he would have he wouldn't have cared if we went down mean't he was 100% getting his pay out.

Although we are unquestionably mismanaged, our deviation from our sell-an-asset-a-season approach was down to the global financial downturn and the fact our selling audience  switched to selling amongst themselves as a form of protectionism.

Although he should have been sacked months earlier, if we’d had kept Rodgers, we’d had probably stayed up.

Sickeningly I think this might be correct.

No way would he have allowed a relegation and he definitely could get a tune from that team.

I hate the very concept of it, though.

No I'm not. I think on balance he'd have spawned results to absolve himself.

Maybe, but I think something had just gone so majorly wrong that year it was beyond repair, he was clearly desperate to get out and I reckon he approached the club to agree an exit strategy.

You're probably right about the exit strategy.

Agree that we should have sacked Rodgers earlier but that it also had got to a point that keeping was probably a better option than getting in Smith. Who if he was any decent wouldn't be managing in America. Still think O'Neill would've kept us up. Would probably have matched Smith's results but won the Everton game.

Biggest hot take of the thread right here

A tune in the same way my 2 year old nephew gets a tune out of a recorder

I doubt it, but in hindsight, we should have kept Rodgers just so that he had the relegation that he had fashioned on his CV.

This! Makes me sick that he seems to have an untarnished record according to the media. He's ruined pretty much every club he's been at

I mean that in the sense that he had had the majority of those players playing excellent football AT SOME POINT.

It's certainly a weird thought experiment and I was on record frequently being loudly Rodgers out.
