Until we get a manager that knows what's he's doing

The 1st goal is nothing to do with the manager, just very poor defending.

You think its ok for a ball down the channel to open us up easily every game?

No, but he should be able to defend better 1 on 1. Aluko was out of position, sprinting back and was turned easily.

One thing I’ll say is we’re managing his energy levels horrifically with different over complicated roles.

He’s playing as a RB without the ball.

He’s also inverting at times into a central area when we’ve got the ball vacating the wide space which isn’t being covered/we aren’t managing the ball well enough to take advantage of his central position.

And he’s also being the wide advanced option with us having Cullen wide right yesterday but playing narrow. And again no one was covering that space yesterday when he did that and we inevitably lost the ball.

His best games will be when he plays in a set position, not when he’s being asked to do 2-3 different things

I like the lad and I’m not writing him off just yet after one shocking half

Just looks rash everytime ive seen him. Think he needs a loan away in League 2 tbh like Joseph had

He won't need to be loaned to League Two the way it's going

I always want t support our younger players and give them the benefit of the doubt.

He really was not helped by having Okoli next to him whose positional awareness is non existent.

I think he'd be alright as a wing back, but in a 4 he becomes wildly exposed. Don't think I've actually seen him put in a tackle yesterday he just ran after people

That first goal how was he so far out of position from a goalkeeper rollout?? Such a simple and basic goal, and then he was turned, lovely finish but should never have got into that position.

No - he needs to be supported in his development and allowed to excel in one position.

Yesterday, he was asked to play a stupid high line that none of the back 4 could cope with, next to Okoli who has no place in this team.

I hate to say it, but his performance reminded me a bit of Vontae Daley-Campbell against Arsenal a few years back, when he looked so uncomfortable and frankly miles off the required standard.

Hopefully yesterday was just a bad day, and as others have said, he was in a joke back 4 alongside two absolutely dud centre halves. His attitude seems spot on, which is good.

Sent off on his debut, lucky not to be sent off against Barnsley. Hes definetley rash and inexperienced. A year out on loan playing RB will help his development like Joseph. Doesnt matter what the tactics were, that attempted block for the first goal was pathetic

Watch the highlights again. The move starts with him here, and when he runs back quickly he gets turned pretty easily and didnt even get an opportunity to block. The manager is asking the back line to compress as high up the pitch as possible, and then you are ask a huge amount for your inexperienced full back to come back and deal with this. Defending is clearly not the managers no 1 priority.

We shouldnt need to send players like Aluko out on load, we should have a manager that is capable of developing them in L1.

And by the way, in the Saints game he was hung out to dry by Vestergaard and Faes and had to take a tactical foul on their behalf because they couldnt be arsed to track back.

I agree 100%. But he is still rash and needs an education in how to defend. Preferably on loan

He should know by now. I don’t actually understand what he was trying to do? He was all over the place, doesn’t even look like a defender to me.

That's my take hence why I'm hesitant to criticise him. We saw JJ have the same issues at RB, and most thought he was finished as a player. Yet he moved to Leeds and has played all along the back line, excelling in the PL. Aluko has never played men's football and has been hung out to dry by Russell. In some respects he'd be better going out on loan, away from the toxicity at the club.

If only we had a manager with international caps and 100s of appearances in the EFL as a solid defender who could teach him how to defend properly……..oh wait
