Only having 7 subs doesn't help either. Can't see us having 2 central midfielders on the bench that are similar. He needs to step it up a bit these next few games and make himself undroppable, he's more than capable.

…and you’d like to think that before the opportunity to sign Lundstram and Smallbone he was nailed on. I thought RM, more than most recently, would really invest in the youth but as I said the requirements of promotion at the first attempt have probably swayed it.

Real shame as we could have sent him on loan if that was always going to be the case but I think the recent collective results have forced hands.

With a returning Chaplin, fitter Lundstram, and the arrival of Smallbone I really worry he is the make way…. Page won’t be dropped so I can’t see how he fits in.

That’s a shame, he’s done ok and I’d like to see him play more than not this season but the absolute need to get out of this division at any cost probably puts paid to his starting role.

We're on about this season though mate.

Majority of his signings have looked utter pony so not so sure going with more experience will solve anything anyway. Braybrooke just needs to play to his best ability and he'll be in the team.

Promotion, Play offs, relegation, higher position = more £s I've heard these reasons / excuses for not playing youngsters from nearly every manager and plenty of fans it's just a cop out by managers to use as an excuse for their own shortcomings and failures.

Experience, experience, experience where has that got us these last few years.

Have a horrid feeling he's losing his spot when smallbone gets fit. Upside is he won't stay fit for long but the pressure is cranking up on the manager already and as we know when this happens the young lads lose their spot for the "senior pros".

To be fair though, we’ve said this about the last 5 managers we’ve had.

things that transcend bad managers:

ability to pass

ability to tackle

ability to shoot

ability to hold on to the ball

strength

speed

we should be asking ourselves “ how many of these things is Sammy displaying”?

He’s had two good loan spells where he’s displayed all or most of those. He started the season well and now he’s spent more time under Martin - he’s looking worse game by game.

When players are instructed to play under a rigid framework they taking fewer risks, recycle the ball, don’t shoot, keep possession so all of a sudden it blunts players’ instincts. Particularly when the opposition know exactly how we’ll play and there is so little space to operate in.

In a nutshell, good players sometimes look poor under bad managers. Plenty on here thought El Khannouss wasn’t much good and now look at him under a good coach.

Opposite to Thomas forced to stay back exposing his weaknesses allowed to go forward looking more like when he played in the PL during the pandemic.

I won't @ them but someone on here in the summer said Callum O'Hare was better than El Khannouss, genuinely the worst footballing opinion I've ever read

100% Look at virtually the whole O'Neill squad under Taylor for a season.

Vardy under Puel looked like he'd played a season too long.

He's never had any intention of blooding youngsters (Page, Otchere and others were loaned out before pre-season had finished) and let's be honest Page is only in there thanks to Skipp getting a stupid red card and then getting farmed out to Charlton.

Braybrooke's had a tough couple of games but no player would get a chance if they were replaced every time that happened. Smallbone may be half-decent but we're not talking a player who will be so much better than anyone else that he's the difference between promotion or not.
