I think it only isolates the wingers if the full backs don't push up and support them with overlapping runs. However you are right and I don't disagree with your view but want to see what the new players can do and what difference that makes, then start playing with the system

If we start playing out the from back quickly then things should improve by not creating our own chaos around the back and we can get up the pitch quicker.

The wingers also have to stop over playing and under thinking.  They are so static because the full backs either pass behind them from deep and then stop running or completely ignore them and they have to watch the defence pass backwards until they lose it or boot it up the pitch.  When they finally do attack, the wingers need to remember that they are playing in a team.

This is now all down to King.  Get the forwards running into space and those on the ball to look for that pass quickly.  Ricardo & Thomas are cowards and JV thinks he is better, stronger and quicker than he actually is.  At least Hamza is out, that's one less coward passing backwards.

I would throw the new players in, they don't need weeks to get up to speed.  The system is poor and King has watched these players make the same mistakes all season.

I expect King to play exactly the same team including Ayew and allow them to play the same way.  I don't think he has a clue as a coach, motivator or has any tactics.  I will be hoping I'm proven wrong.

This is beyond silly.

1.) There isn’t the coaching time available to do this effectively - playing 3 at the back needs a clearly defined structure, pinpointing how the wide and central midfielders react to threats in wide areas etc - a poorly coached 3 at the back often ends up being a back 5 and you just get pinned back inside your own half (see Sadler’s attempt to do this against Brentford as a case in point).

2.) Assuming you’re suggesting some combination of Fatawu / Mavididi / Monga as the two wide players - you’ve now put extra defensive responsibility on them, which they’re not ideally suited to - and as a result it lessens what they can do going forward.

What’s even worse is if the opposition play with a pair of wide players on both flanks, it becomes very easy to double up and negate the wide threats without giving up much in other areas - a basic and easy game plan would be to allow the 3 centre halves the ball and keep a compact and balanced shape that asks the question - are your 3 defenders good enough with the ball to break us down?

3.) In addition - because of the lack of width with this formation, you really have to play your two wide players with their strongest foot on the outside - the transitional shape would be horrible if your only wide threats are driving inside all the time.

So that would be Fawatu on the left and whoever you suggest on the right - and that puts them at a disadvantage in terms of situational familiarity.

4.) With injuries and suspensions - we’re rather light at centre back, so playing 3 from the start seems counterintuitive to what is available to us.

5.) Why would you advocate a system that provides more opportunity for Ayew to play than less?

6.) Our fullbacks would look better if we could address the overall structural deficiencies in our play - especially in central midfield and defence. I’m hopeful that the signings made can help address those.

In response to point number 5, he plays every week. Usually the full 90+ mins and does naff all. He’s an absolute disgrace but every manager, including the interim keeps picking him. He’s not a striker, he is rarely in the box when we’re attacking…so what other option have we got?

It's not what Ayew offers us up front (nothing) but the negative impact he has on the pitch in other areas.  you could literally play anyone upfront and it would be an improvement because it wouldn't be the Ayew show.  A half decent manager with tactics doesn't play Ayew, a half decent coaching team stops him playing how he does.

We won’t have a half decent manager or coaching team by the time we play Birmingham.

I really want to see the new signings

With only a 6 point deduction - 4 new faces, I actually have more positivity than I've had for a while - (even if I still think we are very poorly run)

Not expecting a result here - still managerless and now hit with a six-point deduction. For other clubs in the same situation, there would be a 'season starts now' type of attitude. Unfortunately with this squad and what feels like a terminal decline, it's doubtful that will be the case. Birmingham's home atmosphere, on its day, can also make it one of the toughest places to go anywhere.

I see kingy is on social media reviewing each new signing. I completely forgot he played for Rangers/with Aribo lol

He’s also basically confirmed Richards is a winger and an impact sub.

Mukasa sounds more likely to be a starter

Talks about playing with Aribo, Mukasa being very talented and Richards being good out wide and coming on to make an impact.

Not watching if Ayew or Thomas start. Really hope we actually get a manager in as I really don't want to have to turn on King.

His comments on Richards pretty much confirms Ayew starts up front tomorrow I would imagine.  Grim.

I've no doubt Ayew continues to be our first choice 'striker'. Richards won't start 5 games for us. Happy to bet anyone.

Ayew's been so egregious lately that I've become staunch backing Daka again.

It's quite easy apparently you just have to show him the 'many faces of' thread.

As a footballer and “coach” surely King has some awareness, has used his eyes to watch Ayew play and can see the negative impact he has over Daka. Dog shit v cat shit but Ayew stinks worse.

I wouldn’t love King to sub Ayew after his first stink out to make a point.  I think King is just another yes man that hasn’t got a clue. It’s not his fault but those above that are allowing the same thing to happen.

Yeah just seen it, guess we have to hope for Daka, Mukasa or apparently Aribo up front 😬

Kids and grown-ups love it so, the many roles of Aribo!

Daka or Ayew then..

Dramatic Crossroads No Good Blank Template - Imgflip

I would stick Reid there and get him to goal hang, that’s all he has to worry about.

King won’t do anything differently and Ayew will constantly drop back to defence to pass around and to the wings and not pass.

Personally can't honestly see a lot changing whilst King is interim.  Remember, he was part of Cifuentes coaching staff and the players we have have been told to play that way by, the coaches.

Nothing, will change until we get a new manager.

I think most of the newbies will be on the bench for this game, worrying times ahead.
