Rowett I bet initially thought he could keep us up but quickly realised that he wouldn't be able to due to the morons in our team. Then checked out knowing he'll still get a decent salary and didn't care. You could tell from his team selections and interviews, he wasn't bothered very quickly

The more I think of the horror show of managers we’ve had recently, the more I think we actually should have considered sticking with Ruud.  He’s the only person that’s actively come in and made any real attempt to plug the gaps in our culture. Had he stayed for that summer, we very likely would have seen an exodus of the right people and who knows how he would have got on.

I didn’t rate him as a manager, but we needed a swamp draining and he might have just got us there a lot faster. I feel like if we had to replace him mid season, we’d have been in a far better situation than we ended up… because every new man had to give the same people a second chance… rather than us just washing our hands with them from the hop. Not to mention that he may have continued with the youth development he started at the end of the season

(worth acknowledging I would have been criticizing the club for actually doing this… but power of hindsight)

We will never know, but you just couldn't keep a manager with such a horrific record before. It was the next pick after that we needed to get right and we didn't. You're right, we should have shift all the bad eggs in that relegation, but we had a spinless, incompetent DoF who couldn't. McCarron this season is doing his dirty work for him.

That relegation should have been the second chance for change. To get McCarron in then or someone like that. Yes, we may not have gone up, but we'd probably be in a solid place in the championship. But Rudders is a fraud, he was the problem and still is.

If your DoF is a fraud then people like Rowett will recognise it and take full advantage and he did.

Gary Rowett lifts lid on Leicester City relegation amid Khun Top admission
Story by Josh Holland

Gary Rowett has revealed he found standards had slipped at Leicester City when he took over last season, with the former Foxes boss admitting there were “other reasons” why a squad with so much quality was fighting relegation.

The Foxes finished 23rd in the Championship last term after having six points deducted for breaching PSR rules. Before a ball was kicked, City were tipped to make an instant return to the Premier League under Marti Cifuentes, who was sacked in January.

Rowett was appointed as his replacement in February and lost just four games in charge. However, only one win was recorded before their relegation to the third tier was confirmed at the end of April.

City opted against handing Rowett a new contract and Russell Martin came in over the summer. In League One, the Foxes are sitting 14th after seven games.

Rowett has spent the first part of the season doing punditry work with Sky Sports and, this week, appeared on talkSPORT alongside Jim White and Simon Jordan. Speaking as a guest, the former Foxes boss discussed taking the job at the King Power Stadium and what went wrong.

He said: "It’s interesting because a lot of people have said to me, ‘why on earth would you take that job?’ It’s a short term job, there’s no real ambition from my perspective long-term, because it was always to the end of the season.

"I think you get to a stage, I’ve done 600-odd games now, you just take the ones that you fancy. I got offered a Championship job permanently about a week before that I turned down [because] it wasn’t something that really made me desperate to get into management.

"It was one [where] I knew the club and knew a few people at the club, it felt like a good opportunity, short term, to go in and have a crack at it. I knew the challenges, I think you always know the challenges when a team with what perceived to be that much quality in the squad is down there, there’s got to be other reasons that they’re there.

"It’s always the same, you often find [that] culturally, things have slipped and are not quite where you’d want them to be. Different managers have tried different ways of doing it and not quite managed to get success. I found a group of players that tried their best to perform, I think they did perform, but it just lacked certain characteristics when you’re down there."

Rowett also revealed that communication with City owner Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha was limited, something that he claims is often the case in today's game. “One thing I found from an ownership perspective is that you didn’t really talk to the owner much," he added.

"I’ve found that a lot recently with a lot of the clubs that I’ve been at. Actually, some of the more enjoyable jobs have been where you’ve actually had some sort of relationship and conversation with the owner and you can understand what it is that they’re trying to achieve.

"Things have slipped and are not quite where you'd want them to be" said the manager.

"Whereas nowadays, you very rarely speak to the owners and sometimes that makes it difficult because messages get mixed.”

This is genuinely interesting though because managers don't shut up about how great of a person "Khun Top" is.

Wonder if people will start to realise that anything that comes out of a Leicester manager's mouth is coming directly from Aiyawatt's pawn, Anthony Herlihy.

I largely agree, but also think you can't fix deep-rooted cultural issues in five minutes.

Bombing Page out of the squad for Aribo/Divine won’t help matters.

Page likely wouldn’t have single handedly kept us up but having players who actually want to play for us, is a good start.

Don’t forget his much needed break to Lisbon 🤯

This is it for me, I bet he saw our squad on paper and thought - 'this will be a doddle; I'll come in, steady the ship and keep them up - good money for an easy job and then onto a permanent Championship job next season'

Then he came in, quickly saw the mentality of the club/squad was in the toilet and there was no appetite from the players to change it and immediately checked out and went into self-preservation of his image/brand mode.

He didnt actually do anything though. Complained they could only play one way yet did actually use any of his 'ability' to try and change it.

Maybe the deals have been better but culture remains without driving that change within.

I still think the manager has to be the one to demand that culture shift. Because maybe you get rid of a couple of bad egg bad players…. But what about bad eggs that are doing alright? I think that’s what seperates a good manager from an average one.

I agree that he needed to be moved but it’s pretty impressive we managed to bring in 2 people worse than him.

Ruud might just have been the worst of the lot honestly :( could well have been better off points wise sticking with Cooper, as we would have been sticking with Marti.

He was and is 💩 but I still maintain the view that if he was brought in immediately when Farti was sacked we would’ve stayed up.

Also probably would’ve stayed up if Cifuentes wasn’t sacked so yeah it’s all on ‘Kingy’ 🤷‍♂️😂

Really hard to know. But when you take over something already broken, its a lot harder than starting from the summer. Ruud imo is the only one out of all of them, that added anything of value during his time here. (Youth and raising standards)

Agreed, though I’d also argue Martin has taken over the worst situation of all of them. Don’t like his style, but I’d stick with him

now. End the constant turmoil of needless changes and try to get some stability.

I’m with you on that. I think he deserves half a season, unless we really do tank. But we do need to start seeing some big improvements.
